Today let's start the CHS with my Summit League midseason "MVP + 5" Reaching the Summit 1st-Team All-League selections. More goes into these selections than just statistics. How they play, the impact they have on a game, leadership, making the right play at the right time, playing on a contending team, etc., all matter, but it would be remiss to say stats aren't a significant part of the equation. These guys are getting it done night in and night out in the Summit League. Please note, only statistics from league games are considered.

The midseason 1st-Team All-Summit League honorees are (drumroll please):

MVP
ELI KING, 6-3 senior guard, North Dakota: 14.7 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, 33.3% 3PFG, 2.6 steals per game (leads league). King is a defensive dynamo and would have my vote for defensive player of the year, as well. When the Fighting Sioux are on defense, the opponent needs to know where King is at all times, on the ball or off.

1st Team (alphabetical)
Trevian Carson, 6-3 junior guard, North Dakota State: 15 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game, 56.7% FGP, 44.1% 3PFG, 2.2 steals per game.

Paul Djobet, 6-7 junior guard, Omaha: 21.2 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game, 51.5% FG, 43.6% 3PFG, 1.1 steals per game.

Cameron Fens, 7-0 senior center, South Dakota: 16.9 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game (leads league), 62.2% FGP, 1.7 blocks per game.

Nick Janowski, 6-4 redshirt freshman guard, St. Thomas: 20.9 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, 53.7% FGP, 41.2% 3PFG.

Carson Johnson, 6-1 sophomore guard, Denver: 22.1 points per game (leads league), 2.8 assists per game, 44.8 FGP, 40% 3PFG.

There are many others to look out for in the season's second half, to name a few: Treyson Anderson (North Dakota State), Carter Bjerke (St. Thomas), Jordan Crawford (South Dakota), Jaden Jackson (South Dakota State), Nolan Minessale (St. Thomas), Zane Nelson (Denver), Joe Sayler (South Dakota State), Greyson Uelmen (North Dakota), Damari Wheeler-Thomas (North Dakota State), and Damon Wilkinson (South Dakota State). I'd be willing to bet one or two of these guys will make their way onto the first team or even MVP consideration.

(all rankings NET, all times Central)
ST. THOMAS (18-6 overall, 7-2 Summit League, 10-11 ATS)
NET:
Tommies move up 10 spots to #117
Torvik (T-Rank): Tommies move up 2 spots to #124

#117 St. Thomas 99, #353 Kansas City 64: Carter Bjerke drained a Division 1-era St. Thomas record 10 trifectas and scored a career-high 30 points as the Tommies (18-6, 7-2 Summit) rolled over the Roos (4-19, 1-8 Summit) in Saint Paul. Nick Janowski added 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists. CJ Evans led the Roos with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Dribbles & Scribbles
-- Kansas City named former Kansas guard and Maryland/Texas A&M/Wichita State head coach Mark Turgeon its new head coach. Really good hire, in my opinion. "Turge" has taken 10 teams (Maryland 5, Texas A&M 4, Wichita State 1) to the NCAA Tournament.

-- St. Thomas attendance numbers (tickets sold, not butts in seats) for its first five Summit League games (highest to lowest):

2,552 (Kansas City)
2.541 (Denver)
2,538 (North Dakota)
2,322 (South Dakota State)
2,004 (South Dakota)
Totals/Average: 11,957 (2,391.4)

In my humble opinion, disappointing numbers for the high quality, entertaining brand of basketball this rising program provides every night.

Deep Thoughts, by Buzz Studley
There is no better sight for St. Thomas fans than seeing a wide-open Carter Bjerke with his feet set behind the three-point line and ready to receive a perfect shooting-pocket pass from a willing teammate. Pure poetry in motion.
