Favorite Friday = Who is YOUR favorite Gophers women’s basketball player?

Lindsay Whalen by a mile. Carlie Wagner was always fun to watch too. I also have a soft spot for Shae Kelley. She was fun to watch in her 1 year.

Whalen for sure.

Wagner 2nd

Braun 3rd has a chance at second, stayed committed and has tried to build this program

Fox 4th had to pick someone from my time at the U

As for current players, it's Grace by a country mile. Her game against Belmont demonstrates why. Belmont obviously scouted her, knew she was one of our top scoring threats, and did a good job of shutting her down. How did she respond? She didn't force anything, took only seven shots, and passed the ball, ending up with a team leading eight assists. Oh, and she played her usual 40 minutes. A totally unselfish team player!

Molly and Carol Ann are players I wish I would have seen play in person (along with Linda Roberts, Deb Hunter, Laura Coenen and so many others).

Rachel Banham
Lindsay Whalen
Mallory Heyer (for her grit/determination

1. Lindsey Whalen for obvious reasons. Heart of a warrior on the court. Both Gophers and Lynx.
2. Janelle McCarville. Incredible passer and court vision. Fierce competitor. Ahead of her time.
3. Carol Ann Shudlick. Underrated scorer and post player. I know she has a banner. Got me hooked on Gophers women's basketball as a student.
4. Amaya Battle. Gritty and tough defender, under-rated as a catalyst and playmaker. She is a great ambassador to the young kids.
5. Rachel Banham. Elite scorer and could shoot lights out in any gym.
6. Kenisha Bell: Great quickness and on the ball defender.

Most of the current team is too soon to think back on. Fun and entertaining team to watch.

The Whalen McCarville thing is tough. Probably a tie? But during the Final Four run I don’t think I have ever saw a woman BB center dominate like she did, and that includes up to the present era!

And I loved the way they played together.

This is from my fandom (and is post-Coenen)

1. Lindsey Whalen- Her and Bobby Jackson just had the IT factor. Also enjoyed watching her as a pro with the Sun and Lynx
2. Janelle mcCarville- Her post moves and surreal passing ability. I still feel bad for her “ victims” of the half court screens she set. (My neck screams in pain just thinking about it.)
3. Carol Ann Shudlick- Her play made U of MN WBB relevant. She was the first boy-crush of a U of MN Women’s Athlete.
4T.- Banham and Wagner- Pure scoring machines…
5. Shannon Bolden- Her teamwork and ability within team concepts. She did everything needed to get the win. 2nd boy-crush as she reminded me of a young Angelina Jolie. Very happy for her successful coaching career!

***. Do got to admit my two other U of MN Women Athletic boy
-crushes are not WBB- Amber Fiser and Stephanie Samedy….
