Can I count the kid in Illinois who was busted for pot and won't be on campus til' 2011?

I'm sorry, I don't want to be negative. I had high hopes 2 months ago, then the big names bailed. I'm trying to keep the hope, if Seantrel stays home, it's a fantastic class.

Nice try on 4 & 5.

1. Jimmy Gjere- Highly rated in state prospect who committed EARLY and the staff did not have to use excess time and resources recruiting him...this needs to become the rule (highly rated local kid wants the scholarship) rather than the exception for the Gophers to become regular contenders.

2. Chris Hawkins- Waiting to be disappointed here, but everything about him suggests he's a much better WR recruit/prospect than McNeal was in 2009

3. Lamonte Edwards- see Gjere

4. Dwayne Mitchell- he came to camp and impressed the coaches to get his offer. I have a higher level of comfort with him as a recruit because of that fact.

5. Josh Tauaefa- Hoping he will provide some pass rush on the interior in a few years.

I don't mean to take this thread in a negative direction, but I think this list would have been easier for me to compile in Brewster's first of second recruiting class. Hopefully, we will see some late in the game surprises prior to signing day.

Henderson

After constantly seeing him at football and basketball games and watching him interact with students/athletes, one thing is certain. It would be such a natural fit and smooth transition to stay home that it would be a shame if he went elsewhere.

Pshh, who needs a top 5 when you can have a top 10. (By the way I'm a great recruiting mind, so put a lot of stock in what I say:rolleyes:...)

1. Devon Wright- Lord knows we have to hit on at least one of the Running Backs we're recruiting...right? Also, a highly productive kid with his size coming out of Broward County is no joke. Kid's a stud IMO.

2. Chris Hawkins- Burner with 6'2 size gets me interested. I'm not the most optomistic person, but I have a feeling he's sticking with us, and especially with the departure of James Green, we need some playmakers at wideout.

3. Willie Tatum- For a guy who's best offer other than us was arguably Marshall, I'm friggin pumped about this kid. He's got a big frame and can run. Probably a sleeper at this point, but in a couple years I think this kid will be a big part of our hopefully dominant defense.

4. James Manuel- Please, please get into school James...If we can sneak him in I absolutely LOVE the potential of this kid. I'm a huge fan of big bodied safeties, and he absolutely fills that role. Between him and Herschel Thornton, I'm hoping to see some beef in that defensive secondary in the next couple years.

5. Jimmy Gjere- I think he'll probably end up being the best player in this class (barring someone named Seantrel committing), but I think it;ll take awhile. I'm hoping we can piece together a servicable line this upcoming year and can redsirt JG, so that he can step in for Carufel at right guard in 2 years and start for 4 years. He looked very nice in the Army All Star game but definitely won't dominate as a true freshman and I think a redshirt would suit him well.

6. Marquise Hill- Speedster out of St. Louis reminds me a lot of Bryant Allen. Wish he was a little bigger, but I think down the road, he and BA will be awesome weapons in the slot. It's a definite possibility that he won't end up at WR (possibly DB or RB??), but I think he is said he was going to play wideout in his interview with GopherHole, although many things can change.

7. Mark Lenkiewicz- Under the radar interior o-lineman that is a little on the skinny side right now, but I think he will be a very solid piece of the offensive line puzzle a couple years down the road. From what I've heard he's a hard worker with excellent footwork...Very Nice!!!!

8. Lamonte Edwards- Hometown kid that's strong as an ox, gotta love it. Probably doesn't run the reported 4.48 that Rivals lists, but he s very athletic. The only reason he's not higher on this list is because of the huge question as to what position he is going to play. I watched his game against CDH and although he was very productive, he just didn't look the part of a B10 running back. He had a funny style, but there was no denying his power and speed (although the lack of speed on the field may have made him look faster than he actually is). I'm hoping he can figure it out and possibly be that 230+ pound running back that Wisky always seems to have.

9. Tyrone Bouie- Don't really know what happened with him enrolling early but I'm still excited about Bouie. Good height at 6'0, but probably needs to add some weight. I love his swagger in his videos, and he looks to has some fluid hips. I think if Tyrone can get on campus by spring practices, he will get some playing time next year, but he could also probably use a redshirt as well.

10. Sean Ferguson- Major sleeper amongst gopher fans, but I love the sheer size that Sean posseses, and you have to love a kid coming out of a scool like The Hun School. He's listed as a DT on Rivals, but I think his future is on the offensive line. Nice long arms and carries his 300 pounds very nicely and could definitely add to that total. Like I said he's a sleeper, but I like his potential a lot...

Go Gophers!

Jimmy Gjere - Hands down our most important recruit right now. A highly rated in-state recruit at a very important position that just happens to be one of great need for the Gophers...and he has always wanted to be here!!!

Chris Hawkins - Edges out Edwards simply because Gray is going to need guys to throw to and Hawkins has a very impressive offer list. A very very good looking prospect right now.

Lamonte Edwards - Same as Gjere, although I don't know where he is going to play? Some say RB, some say LB....that is up to the coaches.

Harold Legania - not extremely highly rated for those worried about stars, but decent...I personally have stopped looking at them and instead to who has offered. He has a decent list. Anytime we can beat out Virginia, TX Tech, N Caro, CO, Miss, & Miss St....it's gotta be a good player. Probably the toughest position to recruit in college FB and I don't remember the last time we had a DT coming in with an offer list like his.

Mark Lenkiewicz - This guy has a solid rating from all three of the recruiting sites, only a few of this years commits do. Rivals, Scout, and ESPN all say good things. He can probably go to any non-BCS school that he wants to...and how many times do we hear about a very good OLman coming out of these schools come draft time?! A couple of years to bulk up with Gjere and I see them starting next to each other their rSO years.

1. Gjere because he will ultimately be the best player in this class.
2. Ferguson because he looks the part.
3. Eure because we need a TE.
4. Hawkins because at the very least we need someone to push the other WRs.
5 Wright because we need a running game.

1. Jimmy Gjere - Big time commitment at a position of need.
2. Lamonte Edwards - I love his size/speed ratio regardless of playing RB or LB.
3. Devon Wright - Highly productive back in FL.
4. Chris Hawkins - Good height, good ball skills, deceptive speed needs to add weight for press coverage
5. Marquise Hill - Quick WR in the style of Stoudermire & Allen. Should be able to contribute immediately on special teams and can play slot WR or CB.

Grades by position:
WR - B+ (If James Green would have been admitted this would have been an A-)
RB - B+ (Assumes Edwards at RB, Wright could be a game changer but has grade Q's
OL - B (Gjere will be a stud, Lienkiewicz is my sleeper pick, the others all look servicable)
DB - B- (Good mix of Jucos, early enrollees & prep players--I would have like an impact CB like Carter)
QB - B- (Capable QB that is a good student, we'll just have to wait & see if he makes an impact)
LB - C (If Edwards plays here instead of RB I would give LB a B- & RB would move to B-)
DL - C- (DT recruiting is fine but not spectacular, I'd like to add DE in this class too)
TE - C- (I have no idea what to expect from Eure; I would have liked to have added a HS TE)

1 WR Chris Hawkins: Immediate impact player
2 QB Tom Parish: Red-Shirt Could be BEST OVER-ALL QB on roster in 2-3 years
3 LB Willie Tatum: Red-Shirt Could be big-time player in 2 years
4 CB Christyn Lewis: Immediate Starter
5 OT Johnathon Ragoo: Red-Shirt could be 3-4 year starter

1-Jimmy Gjere, Minnesota kid staying home at a position of need.
2-Lamonte Edwards, again a Minnesota kid staying home, they'll find a spot for him
3-Devon Wright, he'll be given an early shot at RB
4-James Manuel, big hard hitting safety, we haven't had one in awhile
5-Chris Hawkins, he'd be higher but he's wavering

#1: Jimmy Gjere: I really think he will end up being the best player in this class. He is local, plays a position where we need to improve, committed early with interest from big time programs....he has to be #1.
#2: Devon Wright: Broward County player of the year, a RB, he could be the most immediate impact dynamic player we have.
#3: Chris Hawkins : I'm assuming he will still be here (I know it's doubtful), but I would rate him right up there with Wright, except I don't think he'd play as quickly as Wright. But he is a speedster, and I still hope he ends up in Maroon and Gold.
#4: Marquise Hill: He seems like a terrific athlete, he has a really impressive offer list, and he has the ability to play either DB or WR.
#5: Lamonte Edwards: He might be the best physical prospect in our entire class, however, I think he is raw. I don't think he has much of a future at RB, and he will eventually be a very solid LB (if he develops). I think he is the high risk/ high reward type of player who either becomes awesome or a flop. However, his upside is probably the highest.

A lotta lists need to be updated lol.

Jimmy Gjere - I think he'll be a huge piece to solidifying that offensive line for years to come. Maybe not next season, but I'm hoping he's a four year type guy.
Lamonte Edwards - Besides hailing from my old high school lol, he's a local kid who's talented, and I'm intrigued by where he ends up.
Sean Ferguson - He was kind of a sleeper type, but I'm very interested in his sheer size. I think he's a project that could pay off huge in the end.
Devon Wright - Is he the RB we've been looking for? Remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be mad if he were LOL.
Dwayne Mitchell - This guy is really undercover it seems, but the fact that the staff saw him in camp and made an offer is very interesting.

1. Gjere
2. Wright/Kirkwood (whoever takes the bull by the horns first)
3. Hill
4. Parish
5. Edwards

Others with upside

Mitchell
Tauaefa
Legania
Eure
Manuel

there should be a lot of red shirts with the class, but overall I like the depth we are building. I don't really view this as a down recruiting year as I can see a lot of potential throughout. A couple of signing day surprises of the positive type will enhance my opinion even more.

Go Gophs!!!

In no ranking order:

Gjere-promising OL
Ragoo-massive size that can be afforded time to mature
Kirkwood-RB who just might have the mass to succeed in the Big 10
Legania-any DT with quickness and size is a plus to me
Edwards-sounds like a punisher whatever position he plays
