per the Fairmont Sentinel:
University of Minnesota Golden Gophers junior offensive tackle Jonah Pirsig does not know what it's like not to play in college football's postseason.
Ever since the Blue Earth Area High School standout first stepped onto the TCF Bank Stadium gridiron during his redshirt season in 2012, the Gophers have earned bowl invitations.
Pirsig and Minnesota, however, nearly had their three-year postseason streak come to an end after compiling a 5-7 overall record - one victory shy of the NCAA's minimum of six to be eligible for a bowl bid.
Ironically, the all-Big Ten Conference honorable mention selection and his Gopher teammates extended their holiday run to four in a row on the strength of their academic prowess.
"Academics are one of the big reasons why I chose to attend Minnesota," said Pirsig, who also earned a place on the academic all-Big Ten Conference team this fall. "Our coaches hold us to a high academic standard, and our success in the classroom has allowed us to earn a trip to another bowl game."
