Huge news for your brackets.

From the Syracuse website:

Syracuse University sophomore men's basketball center Fab Melo did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh, and will not take part in the NCAA Tournament due to an eligibility issue. Given University policy and federal student privacy laws, no further details can be provided at this time

Already had them dropping in the S16 to Vandy, but that's a real tough blow for them. Big time presence on the floor for them.

That ACC team Syracuse is a mess.

Hopefully that helps my Vandy to Elite 8 pick a more likely scenario.

Funny how they waited unitl after they got the #1 seed to announce this.

They did the same thing a few years ago by not disclosing an injury to a key player.

Boeheim is a sleeze. Calhoun is a sleeze. Pitino is a sleeze. But we all know the media can't rip on the Big East....ever.

Does it surprise anyone that the #1 seed in Wisconsin's bracket just suffered a major loss a week before they were going to play in the S16?

Go Gophers!!

I'm picking Asheville to win that one Primm and Dickey are studs.

Add Melo's ineligibility to Russell Wilson falling into Butthead's lap, leading to a Rose Bowl trip that never would have happened without the talents of Wilson.

Primm and Dickey, that sound like a radio duo from..

...well...North Carolina.

Seriously though, Syracuse will still perform at a high level, but unlikely to reach FF. I just updated my FF with FSU, sorry to copy you guys but they are streaking right now like UConn last year.

Losing Fab Melo - gets Ohio State to the Final Four. Thinking it's wide - wide open now for someone like Vandy/Fl State.....but I'll hang in there with Ohio State.

Actually GW, I think you'll like my Final 4. ...

Kentucky, Marquette, Ohio State and Kansas.

UK over the OSU in title game.

Credit to you SS, before the season you called Kansas to the FF and I wasn't sure about that one, but as a 2 seed, they definitely got a great shot.

You just knew something like that would happen. Wisconsin sports have had the horseshoe up their ass for so long...they'd have to have decades and decades of misery just to even it out. But for whatever reason, karma never slaps those smug bastards.

Vandy seems to be the hot pick to make a run this year.

Bleed:

The list is long and incredibly so . . .

- Verdell Jones blows out his ACL in this year's BIG tourney right before they play? . . . yup . . . Wisky!
- MSU stud DT Gholston is suspended before last fall's epic game that everyone thought would decide the Big Ten, and I thought, could have bumped Bucky into the NC picture (thank God their genius HC's mind-numbing clock management/use of TOs cost them that chance).
- Some one already mentioned the Russell Wilson kismet.

But the all-timer . . .

Set the way-back machine to 2000. The Bucky hoops team, and 8 seed, has the #1 seed in their bracket, the Arizona Wildcats, lose perhaps their most key player, their 7-foot center, Loren Woods to a back injury. Think Woods could have handled the "feared" sconny bigs, Wills and Vershaw, and made a little bit of a difference? BTW Woods avg'd 15.6 ppg, 7.9 rebs, and around 3 blocks/gm.

Incredible.

Maybe if the Badgers keep getting lucky, they can get to 14 more NCAA tournaments in a row.

This was the year to get the Badgers and somehow they finished 12-6 in the Big 10, 14th in the AP and are ranked in the top 10 in Sagarin and Kenpom. I'm no expert, but that seems pretty good to me. It is good to be lucky.

Next year when the Badgers lose Taylor, everyone will be predicting their demise. I hope they can get lucky again.

Maybe with a little more luck they'll make the final four once or twice. I mean, the wisconsin program is better than MSU and Ryan is better than Izzo. Right???

Nope, its not. I have never heard any rational fan claim that it was. Ryan has a very good record against Izzo, even with the 3 losses this year, but Izzo's record in the post season is almost as good as there has been in the history of the game. As annoying as Izzo is, there is no arguing with the record and what he has done at Michigan State.

Maybe the Badgers will make a Final 4 under Ryan. Maybe they won't. Either way, it is not going to diminish what he has done at Wisconsin. He is the all time winning percentage leader for conference games in the Big 10. 11 for 11 making the tournament. 6th or 7th in tournament wins the last 11 years. Considering where the program came from, anyone arguing with being a top 20 program now would be insane.

Thanks for the well thought out response. I apologize that my original comment was a little snarky, for lack of a better word.

I have seen posts / comments from many Badger fans who would say Ryan is better than Coach K. Ryan is definitely a good coach (although more annoying than Izzo, but that's a topic for another day) but he, as most coaches do (except the almighty Tubby Smith if course - kidding), does still have room to improve.

It's pretty easy to be over .500 in the Big Ten for Wisconsin - half their games are at home and are all gimmees because the refs are scared smitless of Bo Ryan. So that's 9 free wins right there. Pretty sweet. And oh yeah, the refs are scared smitless of Bo Ryan on the road too, so Wisconsin is one of the only teams in the Big Ten (them and Ohio State, perhaps Indiana) who never have to face the Big Ten "home court reffing advantage". Pretty nice to be you, eh? Now go somewhere else and gloat about how great you are.

In what way is Izzo annoying? He seems to run a "clean" program, seems to be a good guy, is respectful of his opponents, plays one of the hardest schedules in the country year after year, and his postseason exploits have carried this conference over the past decade.

Comparatively Bo Ryan is more well known for looking like he's seen the horror of all horrors each and every time a good call is made against his Badgers.

The latter is much more annoying.
