What's in a name.

Why does the Big 12 have 10 teams and the Big 10 have 12 teams???

The Big 10 has gained a net 2 since it was named, and the Big 12 has lost a net 2 since it was named. Despite this, both conferences kept their names.

Because our 10 is a really BIG Ten. Most people's tens only go up to ten. Ours goes up to 12. Just like Spinal Tap.

Pre-Nebraska, or post Penn State...

Classic Highwayman! One of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema. Rivals the Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler dust-up and subsequent soliloquy at the end of "Gone with the Wind."

Brand value. The name "Big Ten" has value, thus it hasn't been changed.

Being correct or making sense plays second fiddle to cash in this world.
