Don't want to look ahead, but will anyways.

Between Ralph, Hoff and Devoe, with Nolen and (hopefully Mbakwe) coming back, plus Rodney in year 2, we will have a very solid core of guys. Bring Carter and Iverson off the bench with Cobbs and (hopefully) C. Joseph and we have a really good young group with only Hoff as a senior.

Also, as an aside, we should be glad we have someone like Devoe who is able and willing to take the last shot like he did. He made a great move, and got a wide open look all by himself. Being only a sophomore, this kind of experience will only help for next year.

This year was somewhat lost because of the off-court crap. Next year (hopefully) we can rebound (no pun) and be back in the BT's top 4.

Great post. I am already looking forward to the next season also. Purdue will have 1/2 the talent next year. MSU, OSU, and UW will not be as talented either. The 2010-11 will be ours if we have no off-court crap.

What we always seem to forget is those other teams are not standing still. They have highly rated classes coming in or getting a year older.

It will be tough.

Who's projected to leave of the three junior stars on Purdue?

Kramer and JJ were the ones who beat us last night. I understand that every team is bringing more talent but our team will be older and more mature. You can see how our players developed from October to March. I am very proud of these guys. They really played well last night. Against the # team in the country, you cannot make any mistakes. I think that we made only a few mistakes that may have cost us the game. Next year will be different. We'll be great from October to March.

If the "DREAM" sequence of events happen: Al returns. Trevor isn't rotting in prison. Royce does another 180 and returns. Cory Joseph decides to sign with us... If all of these things happen-we have a real chance to win the Big Ten. Take any one of these out of the equation and things would change dramatically. Even if Al and Trevor are the only two to play next season--we will be much improved imo. I'd be very happy to see three out of the four happen.

let me preface with the thought that I tend to be a pessimistic fan. I am a Debby Downer all the way (I try not to be, but after years of watching games like last night's, I struggle). let me also say that this season I bought into the hype; I let myself believe that we would actually be in the mix of Tourney teams that are just in. not on the bubble, not struggling down the stretch...just one of those teams that enters Selection Sunday wondering what pod/region they will be in, what seed they might get (will we be in the 4/5 game or is it better to be a 6 and be on the 2 seed side of the bracket?, etc etc). o'well.

but it makes me leary to say "next year will be better!" I love that most Gopher fans are embracing that we screwed the pooch this year and believe we will right the ship next season. I really hope this is the case!! I hope the optimistic fans keep outweighing the fans like me!!

Hate to break it to you but Grant and Kramer were the only seniors last night for Purdue that played I believe. Johnson, Moore, and Hummel are juniors. Hopefully, Hummel will come back okay since he seems like a class act. OSU has a top-rated class coming in and some good talent returning even if Turner goes. MSU and UW have a lot of good underclassmen, and I can't see Izzo or Ryan having too much of a letdown. And let's not overlook Indiana. They're only going to keep getting better.

But I'm also looking forward to next year. Sampson and Joseph are really coming along and you've got to believe Rodney is going to blossom. Throw in the others coming back, and we'll have a solid base although Damian's all around game is going to be hard to replace. We've pretty much used up our share of distractions for a decade, so that should be a big plus. I really believe Westbrook leaving is going to basically help. Maybe he's misunderstood, but I couldn't believe him at the end of the game last night. Again, it sure looked like he had his own agenda.

The real key obviously on whether or not we're a contender is what is going to happen to Al and Trevor. I'll settle for them being able to play. Cory Joseph or either incoming freshman being a factor will be a bonus.

Hopefully, all of these close losses are a real learning experience for the players. They'll be tougher at the end of games and not have a mental lapse either on offense or defense. They'll know who should have the ball at the end of a game to close it out. They'll remember how much those close losses hurt and fight that little extra to get through a screen or get a losse ball. Most of all, they'll see how damn close we were this year even with all of the crap and worik extra hard on their games this summer: ball handling and shooting especially.

I understand your points. I have a feeling that JJ and Moore will be gone next year. Rob may also test his options. I cannot help it. I am a very positive person. When I saw that Tubby changed his man-to-man defense to Zone, I realized that good things are about to happen. I am not saying that it is a better defense. I am saying that his willingness to change his style makes me think that he isn't going anywhere until he owns Big10 and possibly final 4. Tubby hates to lose. He has and will be a winner. I have watched Tubby's coaching for about 20 years. I have never seen him making such a dramatic change. It will be so much fun from now. I had a post a few months ago about our players not to be mentally tough. Today, I can say that they are getting there. I also agree that Westbrook being gone is a plus for this team.
