Every coach's fear this fall....

That is very true. There is no way any team is going to avoid it this fall. It is just too contagious and it is especially good at infecting young healthy people. Football practices are ready-made dens of H1N1 infection - any sweat/snot/whatever that flies around during drills and any contact (huddles) will make the virus storm through teams. Especially since football players are not likely to admit any slight symptoms until it is obvious (and too late).

If we had a cupcake NC schedule I'd think we would want to get it through the team early. Unfortunately there will is no such time with our schedule. I suppose we will just have a ready supply of Tamiflu keep a really close eye out for symptoms.

I wonder if they will cancel/postpone their game so as not to transmit it to the opposing team?

It sets a precedent I don't think the NCAA wants any part of when you cancel a game due to team illness. This isn't the first highly contagious flu bug over the course of college football history and it's surely not the last.

1919

Are you sure that no games in 1919 were cancelled during the great pandemic.

I think the Stanley Cup was canceled during that time.

The scary part of this is that it infects healthy people as much as those that are sick and weak. We are also not even into flu season and the flu vaccine is not going to be available until October. Not to be a "sky is falling" guy, but I think it is highly probable that many games in high school and college will be postponed before it's all said and done.

Just hope it doesn't hit the Gophs or our loved ones. I have two friends whose families have been hit already and it's a nasty virus. Kids and mom very sick for 7 - 10 days.
