Lucky for Lunardi, he agrees with our Hodger:

ESPN's Joe Lunardi talks Gophers
ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi answered a couple questions today about what would happen to the Gophers' NCAA hopes with a win or loss in the Big Ten tournament this week.

Q: The Gophers are currently a No. 11 seed in your bracket and not one of the last four in, but could they realistically survive a loss to Northwestern in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament and still get an NCAA bid?

A: Would make them no better than a 50/50 bet at that point.

Q: How safe are they by beating Northwestern and still losing the next game to Michigan State?

A: Pretty solid in that case.

Go Gophers!!

Marcus Fuller at the PioneerPress is no dummy. He puts the putz at startrib, one myron medcalf who is just an IL fan writing to have a job, to shame.

Thanks Bleed.

This is all fine and dandy but Mr. Lunardi is not.....I repeat NOT part of the selection committee so his opinion is no better than mine, your's, or anyone else on this board. If there were Q & A's with actual selection committee folks, then I'd pay attention...

Yeah, yeah...but he's got a stellar record at picking the teams to make the tourney. I think he screws up more on the actual seeding, but he usually nails the teams. So actually, yes, his opinion does mean more than you or anyone else on this board, including mine.

He's not on the Selection Committee, but he did go 65 for 65 on the field last year. I'll concede that 31 of those teams were gimmes, as they won the auto-bids, but even then, he's coming off a 34 for 34 performance following up a (IIRC) 33 for 34 performance the year before. 77 for 78 ain't bad.

Lunardi does this for a living. He's not on the selection committee but you can better believe he knows all of the criteria and importance that the selection committee places on each number and game.

I would trust these guys (Jerry Palm, etc) 100% more than some ESPN anchor who gets fed a few questions while they are in the green room having their makeup done 5 minutes before they go on air and have to make a decision one way or the other.

Get it done against Northwestern.

We need to take care of that g*ddamned basketball on Thursday and things might turn out all right. I would love to see this guy's prediction come true. As many times as the Gophers have let me down this season, they have shown flashes of absolute dominance. Who knows what they will do if given even a 16 seed.
