Here is ESPN's Big Ten All-Freshman Team. If Brewster's strength is recruiting, then why don't we have any names on this list? Did we have any last year? Who is Brewster's most effective (in actual on-field play) recruit thus far?

Anyway, here's the list and the link:
OFFENSE

Michigan QB Tate Forcier
Iowa RB Adam Robinson
Indiana RB Darius Willis
Michigan State RB Larry Caper
Iowa OL Riley Reiff

DEFENSE

Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy
Michigan DE Craig Roh
Wisconsin LB Chris Borland

Illinois CB Terry Hawthorne

SPECIAL TEAMS

Purdue KR Al-Terek McBurse

no freshman got significant play time as a starter. I don't see Ohio State having any or Penn State either?

Not looking to start a fight here but I don't get some of the discussions/arguments here on the board.

How is it that Brewster inherited such a lack of talent, is so great at recruiting, yet will not have any freshman make real contributions? It seems like the logic contradicts itself.

So then that would imply our freshman are not as good as our Juniors and Seniors. That is certainly why Penn State and Ohio State don't play their freshnman. Considering how bare the cupbpard was left at Minnesota I would have thought at least one of our super freshman would have contributed enough to make this team. JMO

Perhaps the recruits are simply not Big Ten ready to what Brewster wants?

It's quite possible that a Chris Bunders as a redshirt sophomore can still be a better player at this point than a true freshman in Brooks Michael or Ed Olson. Things change with a year in a college program.

Why isn't Hageman playing over Barrett Moen? That must mean Moen is a better "talent," right?

A lot of JUCOs from Brew's first class are playing significantly and were in their first year here. People seem to find any stat to "prove" their personal feelings about Brew. You can spin it any way you want. How about Brew developed players that he inherited - players like our linebackers, Decker, Marcus Sherrels - go ahead, you can pick players that have regressed as well.

I believe Trey Simmons made some all-big ten lists last year. He was no freshman, but he was new to the team.

Juniors and Seniors are usually bigger and stronger than freshman (especially at the skill positions) They usually need a year in the strength and conditioning program to get Big Ten ready. Juniors and Seniors also have experience. It does not mean that they are more talented or better than the freshmen and sophomores. Some Coaches work the young players in slowly even if they are needed immediately, others throw them right into the fire to get them experience. Different philosophies. I think there is no doubt that the freshmen and sophomores are big upgrades over the juniors and seniors, with few exceptions.

Not enough playing time this year to warrant postseason honors, but when called upon next year, I'll have at least some level of confidence in Gray, Whaley, Cooper, Carter and Wilhite. Add in Maresh, and I'm not too down on our freshmen.

I think we will be pleasantly surprised from some others as well.

Look at a guy like Adam Robinson at Iowa. If it weren't for so many injuries at RB, he may have not gotten nearly the playing time he did this year. What if Triplett had been hurt all year. I bet there would be a good chance Cooper would be on that list if that had happened (not that I wanted Triplett to get hurt).

Since when are the total starters on each side of the ball only 5 players? Obviously this is an elite group, not just an all-freshman group. Biased enough to be discredited.

Pure spin job. Your moniker is as contradictory as my own.

What is being spun?
I'm sorry if you see an agenda here, but there is none. I have a serious question about who our frosh/soph superstars are. If there are none, why not? If we have them and they're not being played because the juniors and seniors give us the better chance of winning, I guess I can accept that.

And, by the way, Go Gophers. Rah!

The Phil Steele Big Ten All-Freshman team included Gopher defensive end D. L. Wilhite. There ya have it, proof positive, Brewsters young talent is producing. By the way, Phil Steele probably knows a lot more about Big 10 football than whoever ESPN had assemble their choices.
The link does exist, find it yourself.
