Ward: The West is shaping up to be even wilder and more competitive than I imagined, which makes it incredibly fun to watch on Saturdays and a real challenge to predict on Mondays. The Huskers still look like the favorite in the West at this point despite the loss at Michigan State, with Wisconsin's defeat at the hands of Northwestern a real silver lining to the weekend for them. At the same time, the Wildcats now have a couple conference wins already on the resume, and after that rough start outside of the league, their defense has to make them a legitimate threat to contend now. The real team to watch for me at this point is Minnesota. The Gophers certainly don't blow anybody away with their one-dimensional offense, but with a workhorse running back in David Cobb, a steady, stout defense and a schedule that is pretty manageable over the next few weeks, they could be in great shape heading into November. It gets tricky down the stretch, but suddenly that Nov. 22 matchup between Nebraska and Minnesota is shaping into a huge one in the West.
