per ESPN:

UConn athletic director Warde Manuel is expected to accept the same post at Michigan, his alma mater, sources confirmed to ESPN's Andy Katz on Wednesday.

Another source told Katz that an official announcement is expected Thursday.

"He loves his alma mater, as most of us do, so it's really a great honor and it is one of the best jobs in college athletics, without question," UConn president Susan Herbst told The Associated Press following a Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday, which Manuel also attended.

Manuel, who has been the athletic director at UConn since 2012 and held the same title at Buffalo for seven years before that, has been at the top of a list of candidates to take over the Wolverines' athletic department since November, when acting AD Jim Hackett announced he had no intention of taking the job on a permanent basis.

Go Gophers!!

Michigan has been operating with an interim AD for 15 months?!?!? What are they doing?!?!?! Why did it take them so long?!?!?!?!? Clearly their athletic department is a joke and has a long history of losing!!!!!

Yeah because Michigan and Minnesota are comparable programs...

If Minnesota football won 11 conference championships and 1 national title along with basketball going to 4 final fours and 3 national championship games just in the last 30 years, I wouldn't be worried about our next AD.

Clearly their athletic program is not a joke and doesn't have a long history of losing.

That's the argument made here constantly. Minnesota taking its time and being careful in selecting their next AD is further evidence that Minnesota's athletic department is a joke. Michigan does literally the exact same thing and it's nbd. Point being, the time taken to make a hire is not reflective of the quality of the hire nor the quality of the program doing the hiring. See: Michigan.

And that is why Minnesota needs to take their time to hire the best option they can.

You don't get it - they're incapable of hiring a competent person anyway, so if they don't just hurry up and hire someone we can't whine about what a crappy job they're doing. Right now we have to whine about not having an AD rather than whining about how incompetent the AD is. Duh!
