per ESPN:

Minnesota: Bronko Nagurski, FB/DT, 1929

Led nation in rushing yards (737); All-American at FB and DT

The most dominant all-around player of his era earned first-team All-America honors at both tackle and fullback. Grantland Rice wrote, "Eleven Nagurskis [on a team] ... would be something close to murder and massacre."

Honorable mention: Bruce Smith 1941, Bobby Bell 1961, Tyrone Carter 1998

Go Gophers!!

I believe that Bronko is the only player named 1st team All American on offense and defense.

ask ron dayne

I believe that Bronko is the only player named 1st team All American on offense and defense.

ron dayne considers TC the one player on a defense he needed to consider. TC was something at shootin' em out.

Make sure you also go to the ESPN site (link below) and vote for Bronko Nagurski in the head to head voting over that lame punk Johnny Manziel. Nagurski would have picked him up and body slammed his skinny butt to the ground for a nice 15 yard loss sack. ;)

Nagurski is the 5 seed in his region, Manziel the 12 seed. Knowing how most ESPN.com rubes are mouth breathers and what have you done for me lately types, I won't be surprised if that over-hyped p.o.s. Manziel (wrongfully, imo) moves on in the bracket just because most of them have seen his stupid face on TMZ lately. And primarily because most people have an under appreciation for historical perspective, and just how good Nagurski was for his time. You could drop Nagurski in 2014 and he would still be a dominant player in the NCAA and Pros.
