"It's easy to get along," Smith said. "We just come out and do what's best for the team, what the coaches ask of us. Whoever the coaches decide to put on the field is on the field. I feel like we both show up in practice and compete. We bring elements to the game that help inspire the offensive unit."

Added Brooks: "Say if I'm running and he sees something I need to work on, he'll let me know. That's what you really need as a teammate. When you're getting down or not doing something right, he'll let you know. That's definitely good to have."

The duo's friendship dates to Brooks' official visit to Minnesota. Smith enrolled in 2014, took a redshirt season and was already on campus. Brooks said he researched all of the players on Minnesota's roster from Georgia. Though the two played high school football only 80 miles apart, they did not know each other. But Brooks said he knew they were bound to form a tight bond. Now, they play video games, go to parties, the mall and restaurants together.

"Him being from Georgia, from the home state, that helps," Brooks said.

Go Gophers!!

Good article. Brooks and Smith graded themselves at a C and B- respectively. If that's what they are at that level of performance, can't imagine what they view as an A

the rb depth is fantastic.
