Per Rittenberg:

"4. Minnesota: People are writing off Adam Weber too soon. He's the Big Ten's most experienced quarterback and should improve in a more simplified offense this fall. Like Michigan State, Minnesota has its backup quarterback playing wide receiver, but MarQueis Gray can step in if need be and bring tremendous athleticism to the backfield."

I actually thought we would be 3, based on the pub that Rittenberg had given Weber. However, hard to argue given the performances of last year between the two options.

Something seems amiss here. How can we have the fourth best qb in the Big 10 and yet be expected to only win 1 non-conference game and only 1 Big 10 game? I guess the prognosticators have no faith in our D or our receivers and running game.

Rittenberg has been a lot kinder to the Gophers in his preseason coverage and predictions than almost everybody else in the national media.

The article takes in to account QB depth, so Gray's presence probably helped edge us in to the conversation.

I guess they are saying the other 10 players on offense are bad enough that even having a middle of the pack QB doesn't have a chance to be successful? However, I'm in the 6-6 club based on what I think will happen. So I have a hard time with the 0fer expectations for the team.

It is a positive sign that the guy whose job it is to know about Big Ten teams sees this team in a more positive light than guys who spend 99% of their time covering the OSU and Texas's of the world.

Exactly. Of all the pundits out there, I give Rittenberg's the most weight. You can tell from his writing about all the Big Ten teams that he actually watches the games and follows the programs rather than making blind assumptions.

Can we please make it be next Thursday already?
