per ESPN:

Nationally, recruiting budgets have risen across the board, so it's hardly limited to the Big Ten. Still, the conference seems to be outpacing the competition. Between 2008 and 2012, Big Ten teams placed within the top-10 nationally in recruiting spending on just five occasions. In 2013, four conference teams (Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State) placed within the top 10 -- and Illinois wasn't far behind at No. 12.

But coaches and athletic directors were slow to label last season a turning point. After all, it's not as if the staffs had all doubled overnight. Instead, they cautioned, there were other variables that needed to be taken into account. At Wisconsin, for example, the budget is artificially low because the Badgers are provided a private plane and don't need to charter flights as much. At Iowa, a booster donation wasn't included in the recruiting numbers until a few years ago -- which could account for part of the jump. And at Minnesota, due to the campus location, increased flight and hotel expenses impacted the budget more than schools elsewhere.

"We can't drive as much as others," Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague added. "So we've got to keep building the budget and being aggressive."

It's important to step on the gas when it comes to recruiting...

Had an opportunity to check on the Recruiting Class of 2015 around the country, and the results are somewhat disturbing for Gopher fans, as of Memorial Day Weekend:

**SEC - all 14 teams have received multiple verbals so far

**ACC - 14 teams out of 14 have received verbals

**PAC 12 - 12 teams out of 12 " "

**Big 12 - 10 teams out of 10 " "

**Notre Dame has a handful of verbals

**the B1G has 13 teams out of 14 receiving verbals, with the only exception being the Gophers

Of the "top" 65 BCS teams in the country, only one is currently shut out with regard to verbals

Gotta step it up....

I'm not disturbed. You do your thing, the thing that has worked everywhere (including here, two years ago), and things will turn out okay.

I'll commit today if it makes folks feel better.

LOL - That, along with not having to rehash this again this year does make me feel better. It may seem like nothing is happening because we are not hearing anything. The NCAA rules don't allow for specific comments about specific recruits but per Jerry comments on the Sports Huddle "Things are proceeding well." Jerry is going to do it his way, so let's relax and enjoy the nice summer weather! Based on past experience I think we can trust that Jerry Kill has things under control.

Yeah it is just an odd perception thing more than anything else at this point. In general I am one of the many that puts very little stock in verbal commitments at any point in the process but it is still nice to look at a list and see a few names there. Somehow someway when signing day rolls around I am sure they will sign a full class like usual, it always seems to work out that way one way or another.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up. It reminds me of the plot of the movie Shakespeare in Love where the directer/producer said something to the effect "I don't know how or why but somehow everything seems to work out in the end."

The wheels are coming off. Better forward this information to the coaches.
