Eslinger on All-Decade Team

Nice honor for Greg. I remember how nervous I was when I learned he would be starting as a true freshmen. That feeling didn't last long. He is probably my favorite Gopher of all-time. I know he is living in CO but I hope he stays connected to the program.

I remember when my son was a senior and Eslinger was a Jr. My son was a superb center, for his size, and a very good DE. He was having a great Sr season and when they played Bismarck they moved Eslinger from OG to OT to go up against my son to protect the QBs blind side. Greg dominated my son in that game and my son said after the game what an awesome player he was and that he hoped he'd play for the Bison. But, alas...

I also remember when Eslinger was a Jr and the Gophers played Alabama in a bowl. Eslinger put on a clinic and the color guy, Curry, went on and on about how technically sound Greg was. The director eventually shut him up but Curry got back after it late in the second half.

Cudos to the ND boy!!

Eslinger

I remember when they posted his footage at the signing party. He would level some guy and then run the next layer and try to level that guy. Just by watching that I thought he was going to be a fine college player and he was.

I have been following the Gophers for about 15 years. He is the best Gopher since....? Best I have seen. MBIII second, TC third.

Will Decker make a bid for top 10 status?

But it does expose the problem we've had. Only one defensive player on this list.

Personally there are a few additional O-linemen that could be included (Setterstrom, Anderle). Only other D player that comes to mind is Karon Riley, although there were a few others that had a good year here and there, but names escape me.

I would include Lemanzer Williams, Bruce Holmes, Peter Najarian (sp), Jon Leverenz, and Willie Middlebrooks as defensive players who should be on any all-metrodome team. Maybe Larry Joyner and Donovan Small as well.

Tutu Atwell and Ryan Thelwell would also have to be mentioned for offense.

Sure, those names would work if we went position by position, but as far as impact and leaving a footprint I believe none should overtake anyone in my top 10 list.
Middlebrooks was probably the most overated Gopher of all time. Sure a #1 draft pick but I think Denver think they reached on that pick pretty quickly.

Lamanzer Williams was first team all Big Ten, led the conference in sacks, and won the Nagurski award (team MVP). His '97 season was one of the best in school history.
