Eric Klein follows Kill

That's what I thought he meant as well.

I see that Reeves (Northern Illinois RB coach) came to MN as well, what is Hammock's position?

Depending on reports I thought Hammock was remaining as RB coach. But I've seen it both ways.

I talked to the Blaine QB Klein yesterday at the Mr. Football banquet. He mentioned SDSU as the favorite right now.

Chris, did you get the vibe that he is adament about playing QB at the next level? I like Kline as a possible athlete (like WR even growing into a TE). He was a really good WR his Sophomore season, he is a track guy and he was Blaine's best runner last year. I think Kline is a borderline Big 10 athlete, it's just not at QB.

Kline will be a QB at the next level, whether it's D-2, FCS or FBS. He has the size, speed and skills. The D1's that pass on him will regret it. I don't know what you guys are basing your opinions on, but if you haven't seen him, you're wrong.

I've only seen him once and I could be wrong. I hope i'm wrong about him, i'd love to see as many Minnesota kids go D1 and do well. I would have no problem with the U offering him a scholarship and letting him attempt to play the QB position next season with the understanding that if we thought he was a better fit at TE he would move.

Spoken like a true expert who has scouted and recruited hundreds of potential athletes from varieties of schools.

I'm just going to extend it. Whether it be prep, juco, D-3, D-2, D-1aa, or D-1 he will have success.

I have watched him play a bunch and have looked at a lot of film. He looks like he could develop into a nice 1-AA QB.

-Doesn't play with the edge necessary to be a 1A TE, nor does he have the speed.
-As a QB, he has decent mechanics but looks stiff at times.
-If he is a dual threat QB, he is not quite fast enough or shifty enough. Good, but not quite there.
-If he is a pocket passer, his decision making needs to get faster. Good, but not quite there.

Translation: He looks to me like a 1-A tweener but a kid who should perform well in the right 1-AA system. His numbers were good, but given the system he played in could have been even better if his decision making had been faster.

You don't have to believe me if you don't want, and I will be rooting for the kid as well, but I do have some experience evaluating these things.

I have a son who is now a HS senior. When he was a kid I coached his youth football teams for a number of years. There was one Blaine team that we played every year which was simply unstoppable, and this team had Erik Klien at QB and Nick Bjugstad as RB. Even back then those two kids were obviously way out on the talent curve. It's fun for me to see how well these two guys are doing now that they are moving into college. Back then I would have predicted as much. Good luck Erik and Nick!

Kline is definitely fast enough to play Div 1A TE. He doesn't currently have the size but he is capable of holding quite a bit more weight.

Being fast and playing fast are two different things.

Also, you are saying that a 1-A school is going to give a scholarship to a kid who *might* put on more weight and *might* develop an edge to play a position he has never played before?

Like I said, a tweener.

Like I said, I am not saying "the U needs this kid", I am fully aware that he is a bit of a project. However, he is fast enough, it really isn't a might (IMO). He "might" be fast enough to play WR in the Big 10 (a lumbering possesion type of WR). He is fast enough to play TE. I really don't think there is any doubt about that. He ran track, was his team's leading WR his sophomore season and leading rusher this season, furthermore he has solid receiving skills.

As far as adding weight, that is precisely how a ton of kids are recruited...

Kendall Gregory McGhee was recruited as a 6'4" 220lbs WR/TE prospect and now he is a 6'5" 275 lbs DE (could finish his career at DT). He changed that much going into his RS FR season.
Hageman was a 250 lbs TE coming out of HS and he has transitioned into a 295 lbs DT.
Lair was only 10 pounds larger than Kline when he arrived at the U.
There are countless other players who put on the 30-35 lbs that Kline would need to add to play TE in the Big 10.
