He sees TCU as a good program getting better and SMU getting worse. His solution? Cheat!

"I look at TCU and SMU. TCU is in Fort Worth — and Fort Worth is a fun city. But SMU is right in Dallas, Texas," Dickerson said. "TCU has got it. They have fans coming to the games, and we’re just still sitting on our hands like we don’t get it.
"It’s like we’re just sitting there talking about the death penalty that happened 30 years ago. It’s time to get over that," he said. "I talked to four players yesterday. All of us are frustrated former players. All of us said the same thing. If they don’t want to do anything, just kill the program."
Of the many winners Dickerson offered, the best was the tacit suggestion was that SMU should return to the methods that helped the Ponies become one of the naton's premier programs in the '80s - cheat.
"All of the schools still cheat. The big schools still cheat," he said. "You think Texas isn’t cheating? You think A&M isn’t cheating? You think Alabama ain’t cheating? Yeah right. That’s laughable"

I'm not sure he's advocating cheating as much as he is calling out programs he believes are cheaters and compete with SMU for recruits imo.

Is he and those other 4 players at every home game? If not, he should put a cork in it.

I also dont buy that cheating goes on the way it use to. I feel with social media, and an eye on everyone, that it would get exposed way to easily. But what do I know.

It definitely is not going on the way it used to but I think it is naive to believe that all the schools are playing within the rules. They are all looking for that grey area and are trying to push the envelope in terms of the rules that are in place in order to get an edge. The pressure to win and win quickly is so high these days that with millions at stake you know coaches are going to do what they feel they can get away with if they think it will help them win games and stay employed.

I have no doubt it still happens on a large scale. Especially since the NCAA seems to have little backbone to actually punish programs. They barely touched Miami and UNC, so what incentive is there to NOT cheat?

Dickerson is delusional though if he thinks SMU is on the same plain as Texas or Bama or A&M. They're one of the smallest schools in FBS, and they're barely an afterthought in their own state. They're on the level of Rice at this point as far as football goes.

They definitely don't cheat at SMU like they did when Dickerson was there!

It's kinda ironic he's calling out SMU when he was part of the reason they're in this situation to begin with.

You mean it's hard to compete with the big boys when you play by the rules?

I think he meant that Dickerson and others were paid handsomely to go to SMU which lead to the death penalty which lead to a sh!tty football program.

Houston Nutt is interested. Would be a good hire like Solich at Ohio or Coker at UT-San Antonio.

Yep, exactly what I meant. Plus how would these comments make you feel if you're on the team right now? It doesn't appear Dickerson learned anything from the Death Penalty.
