Don't understand why this kid is still kicking. Is there no one on the team or student body that can't kick as well as him? I don't think so. That last missed field goal really pushed me over the edge.

Ellestad even.

But you can understand Brewster's recruiting of Kip Smith now. Oh, that darn Goldy and his sacrilegious mockery!

tikited, You're probably thinking about Kip Smith, a 4-star commitment from last year who changed his mind and went to UCLA. I'm pretty sure Ellestad was a standard 2- or 3-star kid.

GopnerNation (the poster) is what he attributes a young student athlete who missed a field goal to be. Think about that GopherNation. You people who bash the players deserve exactly what you have gotten from prexy b, macturi and brewball. You wanted it...now you've got it. You are getting everything you so richly deserve. Take that, GopherNation (the poster)!

Dude...the kid has absolutely no confidence left. Should he be doing the kicking ...no. Do they have anyone else. I guess not. Regardless I think Horton is probably trying to salvage the players more then anything else right now.

No sense bashing the players on the board anymore. It does no good.

This kid wasn't too bad last year. This year he lost his touch for some reason. The sad thing is that there is apparantly no coach on this staff that can help him at all.

I responded to the wrong post I think.. I meant Orseske. He has lost all ability to punt. Ellestad never had much ability to begin with.

Well said.

They should let Ellestad punt and Oreske kick field goals, because it cant really be any worse.

I hope the administrators delete this thread. Why you would postsomethimg like thatabout one of our kids tells me all I need to know about you as fan. Take your negativity somewhere else. Up your a$$ sounds like a good place for it. We don't need fans like you. Do the program and the rest of us a favor and never post here again.

I agree, Ellestad SUCKS. It's embarassing.

At the D1-FBS level, it should be perfectly acceptable to rip on the "kids." Football at this level is a major revenue producer for the schools and the networks. More people attend big time college football games than they do NFL games, and it's not even close. If you expect to play at this level, you better be able to handle the pressure, and the harsh criticism if you fail, and Ellestad is clearly a failure as the Gopher kicker.

If you want to pretend this is all about the love of sportsmanship and rah rah, go watch a D3 game. This is a big time sport with the pressures that go along with it.

Oreske was supposed to be pretty good as I recall. Can't remember his star-rating, but those stars were clearly white dwarves.

Stop, Mom! You're embarassing me.

Love,

+1 on deleting this thread.

Its okay to say that Ellestad's kicking is trash. It is not okay to say that Ellestad himself is trash.

You (the original poster) are on your sofa eating junk food and criticizing a team of student-athletes. He is out there under difficult circumstances performing very poorly.
Of the two, I would say you are the trash.

Take what? A young student athlete? The guy is 22. This isn't 8th grade football where we cheer for everyone whether they are good or bad. The guy continues to fail at his one and only job, make kicks. Why would I want to cut him any slack for failing? Someone else who works their butt off day in and day out deserves a chance to succeed in that role. Just because he's a student-athlete doesn't mean he doesn't deserve any criticism. He was brought to MN to make kicks and he gets a free education to do it, so he better perform. Why don't we give him a medal for trying, that will make it everything all better, right imthewalrus?

Do not try to turn my post into something it's not. The young man's character was not in question only his kicking ability. The fact you that would call me trash without knowing who I am show's your true character. +1 on banning you from the forum

When someone is dead and buried, what is the point of throwing more dirt on the grave? There are better, more constructive ways to express ourselves.

I love the responses like this trying to justify ripping on our own players. Criticism is one thing, but calling someone "Trash" or "Garbage" like on another thread about players transferring is something else. It's like doing that makes some people think it makes them look like they're tough guys or somehow the real fans. Doesn't do that all. It makes you look like the asshole you probably are hiding out on the internet.

Not constructive at all other than it lets you release your emotions. Sort of like a baby bawling.

These guys have had a nightmare of a season. They're just trying to finish it not knowing what next year is going to bring. For the most part, they're still trying even if their confidence and enthusiasm is shot. Again, what the hell good does this ugly stuff do?

Well....this is a Gophers forum. Both good and bad is supposed to be discussed. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong. Looking at the responses up and down this thread, I would say it's pretty much split 50/50 for and against ripping players abilities on the field. I have no issue with ripping players. I will rip players when I feel the need. But at the same time, I will give players credit when they deserve it.

D bag alert! imthewalrus is a D bag!

People should really stop being so sensitive. If you have an important job to do, and you don't perform that job, you should expect criticism. Age does not matter. I am the same age (or younger) as most of these players and I would expect to be criticized if I had a job to do and didn't meet expectations. Being a student-athlete does not make you immune to some criticism.

Put it this way. If any of us were as bad at our jobs as he's been at kicking field goals, we'd probably have been fired by now.

I'm certainly not in favor of attacking the man's character. He may deliver food to the elderly, and save puppies from burning buildings. I don't know, and I'm not going to judge him as a person. However, as a D1 college football kicker, he clearly stinks, and I don't have a problem with stating that.

And this is what is wrong with this fanbase. If somebody woefully underperforms at a top school, the fanbase savages him. If it happens here, someone will rush to his defense and play the "he's a good kid who tries his best" card.

And yet you get defensive when people come back at you.

Ellestad is a senior, so we're not going to have to put up with his crummy kicking for too much longer, thankfully.
