I first saw this over on the Kansas scout board, thought I would cut and paste it for here:

DraftExpress Rumor Mill

Update: Earl Clark has officially signed with Byron Irvin and Dan Fegan of BEST, according to Fegan himself. This will effectively end Clark's college eligibility at Louisville. The move comes as no surprise, as it was widely expected that he would be leaving follow this season.

-Cole Aldrich is returning to Kansas for his junior season, according to a source close to the program.

-Craig Brackins is leaving the Iowa State program, according to multiple sources. The coaching staff has already moved on, and is actively looking to replace his scholarship for next season. Brackins is considered highly unlikely to return next season. Some NBA teams we’ve spoken with have him rated as high as the late lottery.

-DeJuan Blair is getting heavy pressure from Pitt’s coaching staff to return for another season, but is likely to announce his intentions to enter the NBA draft regardless shortly.

-B.J. Mullens has closed the door on his college career by signing with agent Andy Miller, and is already working out in Las Vegas to prepare for his upcoming workouts.

-St. Mary’s guard Patrick Mills will announce he’s declaring for the draft next week, without hiring an agent, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

-Gerald Henderson is also expected to announce he’s leaving college shortly, and is expected to hire an agent with strong ties to Duke.

Jonny Flynn to Test NBA Waters

Adam Benigni of Buffalo TV station WGRZ breaks the big news about Jonny Flynn deciding to throw his name in this year’s draft pool.

Rev. William Flynn, Jonny's father, tells 2-On-Your-Side's Adam Benigni that Flynn will in fact work out for NBA scouts and GM's to see where he might fall in the NBA draft. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim had advised Flynn that would be the smartest course of action moving forward. Flynn had said he wanted to return to Syracuse for his junior season.

Interesting that there are no direct quotes attributed to Flynn or his father. Also it doesn’t appear that any mainstream media outlets have picked up on this story. Regardless, Flynn is no dummy—it was obvious that things were going to end this way.

I'll be very surprised if Aldrich stays. The draft is so weak this year, he'd be much better off going this year than next.

Why?

While I don't begrudge Aldrich or any player declaring themselves eligible for the NBA draft, I don't get the logic of how they have to declare because it's a weak draft, because they're guaranteed as a lottery pick, how they can start making millions, or whatever reason behind it. Do you expect Aldrich to regress? Not improve? What I saw in the tournament was a center who plays great on the defensive end and needs to improve on the offensive end. Yes, he would likely be a high lottery pick this year, but next year he could be the #1 pick. Last year at this time, Blake Griffin and James Harden surprised people by coming back for their sophomore year when they could have been lottery picks. Bad decisions by these players? Griffin (if he declares) heads out as national POY, has gained great recognition this season, and whatever franchise he lands with, he should be able to land some nice endorsements. Harden is projected the #2 pick behind Griffith by nba draft express. After last season, both were relatively anonymous. This year they're more mature, have improved their games, and solidified their draft stock. This is bad because. . .?

On top of that, Aldrich very well might be really enjoying the college experience and he might look at the Jayhawks' prospects next year and decide they can contend for a national championship. Keep enjoying college, improve the game, gain more national exposure, and contend for a title-again, why should Aldrich run away from this as quickly as possible?

Next year's draft is being compared to the 2007 one. Cole will go anywhere from 5-9 or so if he leaves this year, and I can't see him going any higher than 5 in next year's draft. Griffin going back actually wasn't seen as that surprising, since he was projected #1 overall in the 2009 draft right when he went back. Harden was a bit more surprising, and he likely was going to be a top 8 pick last year.. with his terrible performance in the tourney, he could fall out of the top 10..

If Cole gets injured, he gets nothing.

I've talked to him numerous times, and he keeps telling me he's staying.. but it's the wrong decision from a business standpoint. This is how he's going to make a living, he needs to think of it as a business decision. He's thinking with his heart (which is understandable) rather than his brain.

The chances of that happening are too small to even consider.

Actually he won't get nothing. Players of Aldrich's caliber, who are concensus lottery picks, are able to take out insurance policies if they choose to remain in school after reaching lottery pick status. There is some firm out of London that most players are insured through.

My gut feeling is Aldrich would benefit from another year at Kansas. You know he's going to get better & improve his stock while playing for an excellent coach & one of the best teams in the country. He'll likely be the #1 center chosen in the draft next year, this year he probably wouldn't (Thabeet). I think he'll come back & hope he does.
