Eamonn Brennan: Big Ten rife with contenders

Big Ten will be tough again, no doubt.

Even so, someone needs to get the monkey off the conference's back. B1G hasn't won a national title since 2000. ACC, Big East & SEC all have won at least three championships since then, and the Big 12 has one.

A good showing at the pre-season tournament becomes really important. A 8-10 B1G team could still be a very good team.

Just thought I'd tell you guys there's a great discussion going on in the comments section of this article. Unlike most ESPN articles there is a nice, civilized, enjoyable discussion of Big Ten hoops going on between fans of various Big Ten teams, mostly Indiana and Minnesota fans there. Yeah, it's easy to be optimistic about the Gophers w/ all the guys we have coming back, but sobering pretty quickly when you start thinking about who everyone else has coming back and coming in. We could be a top-25 quality team and still finish right smack in the middle of the conference, and it wouldn't be an upset. Other than Illinois (collapsing then losing Leonard), Nebraska (still a few yrs away from being relevant), and Penn State (hopeless), pretty much everyone else in the conference is going to be good next year.
