Milktoast Maturi on CCO this morning said he's been in fairly constant contact with Dungy and that the search firm that has been hired will take a list of names from the U, suggest a few of their own, and that Dungy will have input into the list of candidates and possibly have a few names of his own to suggest.

Any insight into who might be his candidates? Besides Frazier of course.
Mike Schula perhaps? Rod Marinelli?
At least Maturi's not on his own in this process, that fact alone ups the chance of a successful hire.

my concern is that dungy will want a teetotaller.

My concern is that Dungy has an agenda. Friendship agenda.

If it's anything more than PR, it's a mistake. Dungy is an NFL guy, I might ask his input in hiring an NFL coach, but there are a lot of people who know more about college coaches than he does.

But consider this: Dungy's reputation is on the line all of a sudden.

Let's say we hire Leach and Dungy doesn't want us to. Will he come out and say he doesn't support Maturi's decision? Probably not.

So then let's say Leach screws something up? Will Dungy's reputation take a hit somehow?

He wont want that to happen. And the U probably does not want to piss off alumni who have evolved into Dungy disciples. Kind of wish Dungy wasn't a part of all this if it stops us from getting the right guy.

If Tony Dungy is not interested in the job why should his opinion matter any more than any other former Gopher great or any fan?

If I were Dungy I would have a promise in hand from Maturi to keep his work confidential. Maturi has said he will be making the hire and the preliminaries should be kept mum and not made public. I would not want my name associated with the new hire. That would be Dungy's choice.

I prefer butter on toast, but that's just me.

I'll have to try this new milktoast fad. I have to think it'd get rather soggy.

:shaking head:

How does one understand the meaning and think the term is "milktoast"?

Dungy= excuse for hire that might not pan out! I talked to Tony and he thought ________ would be a great hire especially after a poor start.

I vote we do this without Tony Dungy.
We need someone with a hard edge. Not sure he'd recommend someone like that.

Dude looks creepy as hell on Sunday Night Football. For that reason alone I hope his contribution is minimal.
