all you need to know about doogie's basketball knowledge is that he said that ralph sampson III hasn't improved under tubby. what a joke doogie.

Hey, if he writes it, it must be true right?

At the point of writing that article, he was 100% correct. RSIII's largest downfall is that he often plays with little intensity. Over the last few games he has stepped that up, but Doogie was right when he wrote that. I will continue to agree that RSIII has only shown marginal improvement until I see him playing with the same intensity he has shown in the last 3 games for a long stretch.

This (whether or not Doogie is a smart or dumb basketball mind because of how RSIII has played over the course of 3 games) isn't even worth talking about, however. Wait until the end of the season and then make an actual argument instead of "OMGZORZ, RSIII played well in 2 games so Doogie is a moron".

He probably knows just as much if not more that most of the people on this board. 2nd guessers, whiners, and emotional over reactions are the theme a lot of the time here. I am guilty of it too.

Face it, no one here knows close to as much about BB as the coach and his staff. ( Not to change the topic)

Well I would hope so otherwise we would be in a lot of trouble playin in the B10. If the ppl on this board were coaching Westbrook,Joseph,Iverson,Bostick,Nolen, and Hoffarber would have all been kicked off the team as all of those players have received some sort of criticism at one point or another this year.

well why did tubby stop going to him for the LAST TEN MINUTES of the second half, when in the first 10 minutes he was playing like an ALL AMERICAN CENTER?????????????????

Go4 -- I hope you listened this morning because more than anything, we appreciate everyone that does, and if you did, unless you were selective listening, you would've heard me poke fun at myself and talk about how Sampson III was a man possessed last night ... praised him endlessly for his play last night ... still will debate, and it is called an opinion, that outside of the Penn State game (think the Mich. game and others), that he has taken a minor step back in Big Ten play this year compared to last.

I can see how you could make an argument that he hasn't improved since last year (considering his inconsistent performance over the season), but I have no idea how you could claim he has actually regressed.

Considering how much RSIII and Iverson played together last year and how little they've played together this year it is a surprise that Ralphie has reemerged a bit now that he's been getting minutes with Iverson again?

Yes, Doobie... this is a tough one to differ with you on... how could anyone disagree? In Big Ten play this year, Ralph is only averaging 9.3 points on 54% shooting, while getting shooting a free throw only 5.7 times per 40 mins. Last year, he had huge numbers of 5.9 points per game on 48% shooting, while shooting from 15 feet 3.4 times per 40 mins.

Plus, last year he wasn't plagued with that passing-to-open-teammates affliction.. he only got 0.7 assists per Big Ten game last year. Awesome! This year, he was taken a huge step back, getting credited with those icky assists 1.9 times per game.

And damn it, the guy is blocking 1.8 shots per game this year vs. 1.2 last year - that's so mean of him - clearly he's taken a step back here as well.

And he's not keeping up those fantastic foul numbers anymore - what good is he if he's not going to be getting into foul trouble at least as much as he did as a frosh? Only 2.6 fouls per 40 mins this year, down from 4.5 last year. C'mon, Ralph! Get with it!!

You know what else is trouble? Those rebounds. 6.3 per game this year, 9.0 per 40 mins... last year he didn't let those rebound numbers get so high -- 4.4 per game, 7.8 per 40 mins. Why, oh why is he taking these steps backward?

Ralph Sampson has not taken a step back in Big Ten play this season. Including or excluding one of the Penn State games - either way you want to qualify it, your opinion on this one is silly.

However, Ralph has not progressed as much as some hoped and/or expected and the lack of consistency can be frustrating. I think the lack of aggression and fire in his persona will always hold him back from realizing some of his potential, but he's undoubtedly going to be a very good college player and will continue to improve.
