Doogie: Upset Badgers, and Gophers' season would border on success

Good to hear that there are a few more Conzemius's coming down the pipeline. Since everyone likes to predict who our QB will be in 2015, I'll predict that little Conzemius is the starting SS in 2024.

Isn't there also a younger Barber in junior high?

If they beat Becky, the season IS a success

It would provide great satisfaction to see the Badgers go from possible BCS championship to mid level bowl game and losing to the Gophers in three or four short weeks. Badger backers have been talking about taking the next step, could that step just be a step back.

Along the lines of what Doogie is saying...I'll give you 3 hypothetical seasons, how do you rank how successful they are?

#1 Gophers go 2-10, beat both Iowa and Wisconsin
#2 Gophers go 6-6, go to lower bowl game, (get the extra 15 or so (not sure how many) bowl practices), lose to IA and Wisconsin
#3 Gophers go 8-4, go to mid-level bowl, lose to IA and Wisconsin

I know a lot of Minnesotans would rank #1 pretty high, not sure where I rank it...always feels good beating those two.

I'll choose #4. Finish 11-1, destroy IA and Wisky, go to the Rose Bowl...

It would be really hard to argue with 2 of 3 Legendary Trophies.

I think it would be interesting to see what the current version of this team would do with NMSU or NDSU. I'd bet it is quite different results.

Depends who and where those 4 (assuming 4..) conference wins came from. If it was only Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, with losses against Mich, MSU, IA, Wisconsin, I'd almost rather take #1. I guess it also depends on the seasons surrounding it. Is 8-4 typical and we're beating Wisc/Iowa every other year or so? Then I'd take the 8-4 year over a run of 1 to 2 to 3 win seasons where one included Ws against the rivals.

The fact that it's even close shows how important those games are.

Well no one would pick #2 because #3 is essentially the same thing except better record and better bowl. Unless you meant to say "Go 1-1 vs. Iowa and Wisconsin."

You'd have to pick #3. Even if it means losing to our biggest rivals, it would be much better for the long run. As much as I love beating wisky and iowa, it's not even close in my opinion.

First, I am all for beating Becky...I would agree season a success and furthermore, very solid reason for optimism. That said, their playing a game where they show they belong on the same field will be successful to me.

That might over-do it a bit. I think beating IA and WI is worth 1.5 or 2 'other' wins. I'd rather go 2-10 beating them than 4-8 without. But to say it would be better than 6-6? No way.

Although my fingers are crossed for Option 1 THIS YEAR (or ANY year for that matter)...Options 2 & 3 result in 15 extra days of practice plus one game beyond Game 12.

We could really use either of those as soon as possible...

Go Gophers! Beat Bucky! In Kill We Trust!

Under represented quotes from Kim Royston in this story:

"Yeah, I texted Nick Toon a little bit. We traded words. But it's all in fun. But once we hit the lines, there's no friendship.

"Three more games left. Two more at home. Have no regrets."

"My mom taught me to never hate anything. But this is probably the closest thing."

"I definitely don't like Wisconsin being a Minnesota guy and being on the other side now. There's definitely a dislike. We haven't had the Axe here for seven years. It's time for it to get back to Minnesota."

I'm very excited to see the intensity from Mr. Royston this Saturday.

Go Gophers!
