Doogie Tweet: Mullen source says he'd be very surprised if he comes here

I keep getting a sinking feeling that all these leaks are the works of Maturi and the Athletic department in hopes to create a smoke screen.

Then he is going to name someone no one has named. And that is going to be a big disappointment as we have seen lists with names 30 deep!

This came from a friend of a coach who has been with Mullen since Bowling Green... now, is it possible that Mullen would wait to tell him that he's moving to MN? Sure, especially if said coach is getting a monster raise... but wanted to pass along what I heard.

would the coach be a guy that would come with Mullen? sounds like he would. would be interesting to know how much the assistants are in "the know" when the head guy is looking around or being courted.

If Mullen came, yes, so would this guy.

I got to believe that this friend would be kept in the dark by the coach until the contract is signed. too much can happen and a deal can fall through, espcially if something is leaked at the wrong time. dont want to tell people you are leaving for XYZ State and then it doesnt happen. Not saying Mullen is going to be the coach here, but I would expect this is the type of infomation that will be given to you untill a deal is done.

^^^posted while i posted, completely agree.

If i were Mullen I wouldn't tell anybody unless you know exactly what's going to take place. If I told my assistant coaches, I would tell them it has to stay completely between them, but I wanted to get their input and that's why I'm telling them. Especially if you're planning on going with him to the new job, I wouldn't go around telling other people.

However, if this guy has been with Mullen since Bowling Green, he knows how Mullen acts when he is leaving for a new job. He has the history and he knows him personally. Perhaps he can read him well.

Doogies source is a friend of the coach, not the coach. I dont think any coach is telling anyone else until the deal is done

Crapola

You know how a kid feels when he has the anticipation of the present under the Christmas tree and there is this huge box under the tree with your name on it. Now I have that sinking feeling that the present in the box is not what everyone get's all giddy or excited about. Dang box will not have the right gift, premature excitement, and Lucy pulled the football. Lucy snatches it back but this time I did not kick and fall. All is not lost.

Can someone please contact Mullen's mail carrier? I'm sure what that guy has to say is worth another tweet.

This is comedy at its best.

I have no idea who will be our new coach but I think it's a strong possibility that if Mullen was interested that he would be worried that someone on his staff might leak the information to the local media (like he apparently did). Additionally, it is also likely that if Mullen was in deliberations that he would want it leaked out that he probably wasn't going to take the job. It would possibly give him more leverage and it would make sure other offers (from other schools) would keep coming in.

Lastly, we have to keep in mind that Mullen is probably going to be the most difficult negotiations of the guys we have on our radar. He will likely get paid a bit more and he would also be a much bigger flight risk, so i'd imagine the contract would be much more complicated with buyouts and such than if it were like an Edsall or Fulmer. So if this tweet that Doogie got was real, it wouldn't shock me if it was posturing by the Mullen camp.

So, if you are interviewing for a new job and you are close to getting it, do you tell your co workers? If you do, then you are a fool. If it falls through you are screwed. Keep your mouth shut until you have an offer in writing.

Also possible that this coach will get a monster raise... double his salary... and because of that, Mullen could wait to tell him, and everyone on his staff. But wanted to pass along via Twitter, where I post everything.

I am glad you pass along any information that you get. But yeah, like I said in my earlier post and like you said here, an assistant coach who will likely be majorly impacted (raise and move, etc.) by this decision isn't that credible because you don't know WHY he is saying what he is saying. It's similar to a coach who says that he isn't interested, you take it with a grain of salt.

Hear you. Where I separate is who he told. I don't think that he'd lie to this person who then passed along to me.

Yeah, I am also probably trying to keep the Mullen dream alive. He is probably the cute girl at the end of the bar looking at the TV behind me and I am mistaking for eye contact.

First it sounds like Mullen may not have said anything one way or another. It is simply someone who does not see him doing it. That said, I would hate to get my hopes up for Mullen only to be presented with Fulmer.

I could settle for Calhoun, Hoke, Golden or even Edsall, but Fulmer would be hard to appreciate especially given the buzz today.

Just wanted to bump this up by the "it looks like Mullen" post". Gotta love the internet!:)

I am not buying the Dan Mullen talk, can't understand the Mike Riley talk, feel as though Phil Fulmer would be a big step in the wrong direction, can't embrace a Jeff Horton hire (although I do love the guy and hope we can find a place for him), would be mortified by a Larry Fedora hire, and am saddened by the apparent removal of Brady Hoke from the list of candidates. My list, which started at 15 a couple weeks ago and has been slowly trimmed, has 4 candidates remaining...

1. Jerry Kill
2. Troy Calhoun
3. Al Golden
4. Mike Stoops

So, is your source a friend of Mississippi State OL coach Jon Hevesy, or is he a friend of MSU Football Ops guy Jon Clark? Those are the only two currently on the Bulldog staff that have been with Mullen since Bowling Green.

Not knowing the situation as you do, would a friend of either of those guys truly know yet what the deal is with Mullen? Maybe, but they'd have to be really good friends.

Doogie is working his tail off so its not a rip but we could find 100 sources on all 50 candidates to say its unlikely they come, especially if they are a sitting coach.
