"Outgoing AD Joel Maturi, in a lengthy sit-down interview on Wednesday, told me he will not tell basketball coach Tubby Smith to change assistant coaches. Maturi's point is that Smith, like all of his coaches, should have final say on who their assistants are. Smith, mostly because of his $2 million buyout (shrinks to $1.5 million on May 1), is expected back for a 6th season."

Go Gophers!!

Fine by me, like I've said he should be fired if he needs to be told to change assistants. His future and those of his assistants will be determined by whether the Gophers make he tourney or not next year.

Go Gophers!!

Except if they hire Jimmy Williams.

Or Maturi is in no position to tell anyone anything.

Maturi would not decide anybody's fate at this point, he has no say. Why does Doogie think this is news? What a dink trying to spin this as news.

So the claim is that Minnesota will keep Tubby Smith mostly because they don't want to pay a $2 million buyout?

That would be pathetic if true, but I don't believe that.

Would an A.D. ever tell a reporter that he was going to order a head coach to change assistants?

NEWSFLASH!! Maturi told the THE SCOUT that he will not demand that football Jerry Kill replace any of his coaches or start wearing a wig in order to look better and improve recruiting outcomes!!
