Former Timberwolves coach and Minnesota alumnus Flip Saunders has also expressed interest. A booster told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS' Darren Wolfson on Tuesday that Saunders is under consideration. But he appears to be a fallback plan.

Memphis' Josh Pastner also appears to be staying put, according to reports. Wolfson also hears that a hot name, Wichita State's Gregg Marshall, is not currently in the mix. The same can be said for Villanova's Jay Wright.

Doogie making *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#e up again!!! I'll take the VCU insider dude's information over his!! No way Flip is above at least 10 names on the college assistant program list with the ominous name!!!

Tonight, I agree with you jammer.

Doogie might be right on this. I think the term "fallback" has a negative connotation that is probably unfair. Even if Flip is 2nd on Teague's list that would technically be a "fallback". Flip would be my first choice but I could easily see Teague wanting to explore all his options for a couple days and see if some of the bigger names in the college ranks are attainable.

Flip is my #1. Flip was my #1 to replace Monson too. I make no claims of not being biased.

Where others see up and comers, I see see see how many of them fall far short of expected performance. As I stated in another thread, Shaka came into a great situation where his predecessor Anthony Grant had just won 3 straight conference titles. Shaka finished 5,4,2,2 in conference forhis four years at VCU. Is he really the guy who is going to turn trhe Gopher program around?

Meanwhile, I see a history of Ex-NBA coaches having great success in college.

1) Larry Brown won a NCAA championship with two other Final Four trips. This Hall-of-Famer's NBA winning percentage is identical to Flip's at .548.
2) John Calipari has won an NCAA Championship with three other Final Four trips. His failed record in the NBA is 72-112 .391.
3) Rick Pitino has won an NCAA Championship with four other trips to the Final Four. His failed NBA record is 192-220 .466

For my money, Flip is, by a very large margin, the best bet to turn the Gopher program around & get them deep into the Tourney.

Larry Brown is going to get SMU a conference title and lead them to the tournament next year. Book it.

I think Doogie's sources are 90% agents, so he seems to get a little one-sided info. Doesn't mean it's wrong.

And there's no way Flip is the #10 choice. It appears Norwood is far more autonomous than Maturi, but he's not a dictator. If they hire some unknown assistant who was the fifth choice over Flip, there are people above him that would be quite unhappy.
