Coming away from this loss and another extremely tough matchup next week...

If you cannot see the progress being made, go find another team. Don't let your friends say "typical gopher collapse", don't let it happen.

This is a team playing hard and competing against everything thrown at them.

Embrace the journey and enjoy the highlights, acknowledge but don't dwell on the lowlights....

I absolutely agree. I know that this team will be playing its best basketball at the end of the season. We will continue to get better as we learn from each game

Agree, I'll be quite happy with 9-9 and squeaking into the tourney.

I agree we will play alot better at home with the badgers, that's a team where I think EE and Mo can have their way down low, if that happens it will open up the out side. Can we control the tempo?

Happens on GH after every loss, WG. "Total meltdown by commentors who could do better out there."

That game will be decided by whether or not Wisky is shooting well... Michigan had no problem speeding Wisconsin up last night, if Jackson has as bad of a game as he had last night (I think he's having a rough go this year) we are GOLDEN

Final score looks bad, but I think Coach Pitino is coaching his ass off. The amount of different looks on defense alone shows he trying to do more with less. Way too many weak links on defense, hard to cover up in a course of 40 game minutes. Especially, if Eliason is in foul trouble for majority of game.

We were hurt by foul problems in the second half.

False. I don't see anything resembling a meltdown on this board. Maybe a bit of disappointment, but if you don't have that, then you don't have a fanbase. The team is doing well overall with what they have to use, in terms of coaching and play. The players have bought into the new system and it's pretty clear that the vast majority of Gopher fans are excited about the basketball program. The lack of the Gopherhole meltdown that you so wrongly assumed would occur is likely a result of a new optimism.

Iowa won that game much more than the Gophers lost it. This is a big difference from the previous few years, where the Gophers had a habit of beating themselves.

Yeah.

I remain optimistic about the future of this season. Amazing things can happen and I think it is within the realm of possibility that we beat Iowa at home. If my aging memory still servers me. I recall a year during the Clem Haskin era when Indiana came up to Williams Arena and beat us by 50 points. Later that same season, we went down to Assembly Hall and beat them by an identical 50 points. That's what I love about college sports.

Excellent memory vagopher, but just a touch hazy. Your point does stand. Gophers got worked over in the '91-'92 season in the first meeting with the Hoosiers 96-50. Indiana came to the Barn later that season and left in defeat 71-67. The shellacking you are thinking of happened in the '93-'94 season at the Barn, Gophers winning 106-56. To solidify your point, the Gophers had lost earlier that season at Assembly Hall 78-66. I agree with you wholeheartedly that it is indeed within the realm of possibility that the Gophers hand the Hawkeyes a defeat in the rematch.

cncmin...do you follow the Game Day Thread? The number of comments that consist of insults and name calling to our players is truly disgusting. However, I do realize that booze does influence some of the jerk comments made.

This is Gopher Hole.

This board can melt down faster than the Wicked Witch of the West after a bucket of water in the kisser.

Thanks for the clarification.

DD - yeah, often enough, including @Iowa, I followed much of the game board. I think you bitched at me on the game board once for criticizing Mo's play earlier this season...I digress... Some people will always be the "world is falling apart" type, and you'll have a handful of them each and every game except for blowout wins (and maybe even then, too). But, I've seen meltdowns on this board aplenty, and the reaction to this loss seemed pretty tepid.

By contrast, the thread about Nelson leaving on the football board is a bit of a meltdown.

I would agree, there has been little to no "Meltdown" when compared to other reactions from this message board. My hope is, that its the same in the Twin Cities. I dont spend my day on the road selling stuff in the MPLS area anymore (I refer to those as the good ole days, before employees....) so I dont get to hear the local medias reaction or get the pulse of the area by talking about the team anymore. Whats the pulse? Everyone understand Iowa was a damn good team?

I have to believe most people understand they watched a very good game by the opponent. Very few who watched that game, particularly with how Iowa was canning deep turnaround 3's like crazy, could blame the Gophers for losing that game. If they're going to hit some of the shots they were making, such as bench-player and Gopher-killer Oglesby's running turnaround 3 as the half ended, you just have to tip your hat and move on.

If one wants to make an argument against the Gophers' play in that game, it would be the frustration and loss of poise they displayed as the 2nd half wore on, but what Iowa was doing during that stretch would take the wind out of any Gopher. Some games you're just not meant to win.
