Some seem to think that Tubby has sealed the deal to be the coach next year at the U.
But, what happens if Tubby takes this team to the Sweet Sixteen - or even more miraculously to the Elite Eight or Final Four? Will the yearly routine of 'Tubby's leaving' rumors finally come true? Would he be unable to resist the temptation to go to a school with better practice facilities, somewhere closer to the east coast with no institutional intervention on his selection of assistants? There will be the normal shuffle of high profile coaching vacancies this year. Maybe Coach K or Coach Ray leave for the NBA for a hundred million dollars. This could result in some renewed Tubby rumors once Tubby gets out of February and if he starts winning in March like last year. Unlikely scenario maybe, but perhaps this team likes to play in March. If my recent memory serves me correct (that's doubtful - lol,) teams that do well in the lesser tournaments (NIT, CBI etc) one year can do quite well the following year in the NCAA tournament. VCU comes to mind.
I can't remember the details of the Tubby extension. Does Tubby have to pay to leave the U early to get out of his newly extended 5-year contract? In my opinion this would be the best scenario for everyone involved. For me, it really comes down to February. I have a hard time accepting the February Gopher BB Performance. They make February seem like the longest month of the year. The Tubby to the Final Four and then to the East Coast dream would mean more money to bring in Shaka or Brad or Flip or whomever. And - no buyout to pay.
