Does the basketball season need an official beginning

This article was an interesting read. It is true there isn't an opening weekend or day. I always thing of Midnight Madness as an unofficial start to the season. Does basketball need to create some hype by having a bigger splash to start the season?

Hasn't ESPN's twenty-four hour marathon become the official beginning? If not then it should. It's like March Madness in regards to how many games you can see in a day.

Pretty much. Most schools played a game the Friday/Saturday before, but no one really wants to play a tough game in thier opener, so it's necessary to let everyone get one cupcake in, then proceed to the ESPN marathon.
