Documentary: Zach Mottla's "A Journey To Recovery"

Wow! This gives a person the opportunity to see what injured players like Zac go through. Its long but worth the time to view it.

I can only hope for the best for Zac and have a better understanding what he is going through as he struggles to regain normal function. Playing football once again seems like such a long shot but if its possible, I think Zac will make it happen because of his determination, character and strong support system.

Thanks for posting this bleed.

Thats good stuff. Unfortunately that leg does not look like he'll be suiting up anytime soon and I just hope the kid gets to walk normally again

Pretty sure his playing days are over. Just hate to see this happen to anyone, let alone someone that has worked this hard and fought through injury to crack a line up, only to have something this difficult to bounce back from.

Great documentary!

This is what I was afraid of with Zac. I never really shared any info on Zac a few months ago when I made a remark about him possibly not coming back (it was awhile ago when we were talking about available scholarships pre NSD). I had heard off the cuff remarks from people who knew Zac that it really didn't sound like he'd be playing football again. I didn't want to spread gossip and be one of those guys who says things like "a little birdie told me".

They get into it in the doc, but for those who don't want to watch the whole thing, essentially the location (I believe) of the break made it really difficult for Zac to have a rod placed in the broken bone, which significantly changes the recovery period and the liklihood of him playing. I really hope he does play again. For selfish reasons, I like seeing the Gophers win and I think Zac could help us win. I also would like to see him play again for his own reasons, I'm sure he's dying to get on the field and for all the work he put in to make himself a legitimate Big 10 lineman, he deserves it. Unfortunately, life doesn't always give you what you deserve (see idiots like Walker Lee Ashley (or countless others) who squandered opportunities while guys like Zac, Beale, Gjere and Michel don't get the chance).

If he comes back, I'm sure we'll see a lot of him. We always start the season thinking of Mottla as a reserve sort of player and for whatever he reason, he always finds himself playing a lot. He really has come a long way from his days at CDH. I was one of those people (again I know NOTHING, just have dumb opinions) that saw him play and I thought he'd be a good D3 lineman. He isn't a very big human (6'1"ish and maybe 240 and not that fast in HS). But he was a good football player and he had to have worked his tail off to become a legit Big 10 lineman. So either way, cheers to Zac Mottla!

Tough deal for Zac and I hope he has a full recovery from this. As a Cretin guy myself I spent a lot of time watching football games and still do. What I understand was he had DAA interest and could have gone to Holy Cross and Brown. Every DII school wanted him too. Anyway for a kid who lacked in stature for the Big 10 he did one heck off a job to become a starter . I hope everything works out for him, it is such a bad way to end your playing days.
