I am in San Diego this week and was wearing my gopher T-shirt. Some guy who had a NC football shirt on asked me this question, didn't upset me and even had some fun with it, just told him I am a wait till next year kind of fan. A few minutes later another guy who heard it came to me and said it's OK I'm a gopher fan too. Despite the state of our program I am never a shamed of wearing my maroon and gold no matter where I am.

I took a bunch of crap wearing my Minnesota stuff to the Michigan/Northwestern game last weekend. Shrugged it off. Will never be ashamed to wear maroon and gold.

That is kind of dumb though, that's like wearing a SCSU jersey to a Gopher/UMD hockey game.

Eh. Wore it to MSU/Michigan last year too. I guess I could just go neutral but...nah.

I live in Hawkeye/Husker land so I always get strange looks and comments when representing the Gophers. A few weeks back I was in K.C. for the Vikes game, shortly after the Gophers got destroyed by Michigan a Vikes fan at our hotel seen my Gophers shirt and was like, "Couldnt you at least wear a Vikings shirt, 58-0 geeeesh", I said, "Im just glad we held them under 60".;)

When confronted/asked about my Gopher pride, I just respond with one word: Rebuilding.

The Gophers are one of the most consistent football teams in the country. We're always rebuilding.:(

I went to the LSU-Florida game last weekend, and was told by my LSU friends to wear gold. Since I have plenty of Gopher shirts in my wardrobe, that wasn't a problem....but which shirt to wear? I decided to don the "Who Hates Iowa?" shirt with a Gopher hat, figuring that LSU fans would appreciate it from the Drew Tate Hail Mary, and Florida fans would appreciate it from their run-ins with the pigs at the Outback Bowls. I probably got two dozen comments, ranging from "Why do you hate Iowa?" to "I hate Iowa!" to "Why can't you guys win?" to "You're losing to Purdue by how much?"

I was at the New Mexico State game, and there were some Gopher fans ahead of me, they had some Badger "friends" with them. They all got up and left in the middle of the second quarter because their Badger friends wanted to leave. One of the people wearing gold whined "Is he always going to be like this?" I wanted to tell him "Yes, he's always going to be like this if you roll over like a whipped puppy. If you don't want to leave, don't leave!"

He was wearing a UNC football shirt? If so, he shouldn't be talking about football programs...

North Carolina is 5-1 this season.

LOL

But seriously, if you're a fan, wear your stuff, even if we go 0-12 for the next five straight years, I'll always be a Gopher fan and I'm going to wear my Gopher gear ANYWHERE. I'll take the ridicule that comes with it lol.

Last Sat. at a MN bar the glasswiper pointed to my M hat and said "tough to be a fan - how long will it take to turn it around?' I told him 4 yrs. Back in BI (before Internet) it wasn't like this at all. Now everybody cares...all the time.

I don't think it is the internet, but a coincidence. The internet became widely available at the end of the Wacker era. If there was little interest in the Gophers, at the time, I think it was more likely that this was just that the Gophers were in such a deep, dark hole for so long that people had lost interest. I'm told there were 40,000 people at Lou Holtz' first spring game, so there had been interest.

I was referring to the violations their football team has committed over the years. I would rather have a clean 1-11 team than to have a good season tainted or vacated.

The U of M athletic department isn't really in a position to throw stones however considering that historically they are one of the few schools to have had 7 major NCAA violations.

And back in BTV(before television) no one even knew the Gophers had a team.
