Will Gopher fans show up if we're fortunate enough to make a new years day bowl game (i.e., the Gator Bowl)? I don't have any reason to doubt it, but when is the last time we've been presented with a (somewhat) major bowl?

Not that it means much but an Indiana fan sitting next to me yesterday commented that we traveled really well this week. But they had almost their entire student section gone after halftime with the rest gone by the start of the 4th.

We won't travel as well as Nebraska or Iowa but we won't have an embarrassing showing either.

We would travel well for a Rose Bowl or BCS Bowl. Apart from that, probably average or below average.

A Florida Bowl would have a LOT of Gopher fans. Now whether they'll all be coming down from Minnesota, that's another thing entirely.

That makes sense ... kind of forgot about the retirees.

From the looks of it, most of the Hoosier fans (student and non-student) had left.

They announced over 44,000. I don't think there was more than 25,000 there at the end of the game. I was really embarrassed for Indiana.

Gopher fans will travel. They just need an excuse to do it. Look at the 1997 Final Four run for an example. Gopher fans overran KC, San Antonio, and Indy.

How many fans followed the Gophers to the Sun Bowl in 1999. From then to now, the enthusiasm and general public interest in the game and team seemed to be higher than for any other bowl we've made in the timespan, including 2003.

We had a large crowd in Vegas for the UNLV game. At this point in time, the quality of the destination plays a large part.

When we played in Arizona the Gophers had good crowds. Last year in Houston I would say about 6,000 made the trip. Houston is not exactly the garden spot of the world. You put the Gophers in Jacksonville for the Gator bowl. I would expect 15-20,000 fans easy.

I would travel. I consider these minor bowls as just practice games. If we make it to a New Years Day game I am in.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't speak for Gopher fans, but the Gator bowl is the only bowl I would be able to attend.

Just curious MrG., but with the Outback in Tampa, the Capital One Bowl in Orlando also both be played in Florida on 1/1/14 why is The Gator Bowl the only one you could attend?

Active duty Air Force at Fort Gordon, Augusta, GA. Jacksonville would be a reasonable driving distance for an overnight trip. I would really have to pull some strings to make anything further happen - at this point, I doubt that would be possible.

EDIT: just updated my location in my profile - I could see why that would be confusing.

If they would make it to the Buffalo Wild Wings bowl down here in Arizona I would definitely go!

I would think Jacksonville (Mayo Clinic Satellite) would certainly help our attendance figures as well if they were to get an invite.

Wife and I are planning to go as long as it's not Little Caesar's. Pretty sure another couple or two will make the trip as well.

Nebraska fans said they were surprised by how well we traveled when we went to Lincoln last year.

I have always told my friends, any New Years Day bowl we are going-so count me in.

I went to every away game last year and thought we had good numbers including the bowl game. Illinois was probably a bit low but not all that surprising given that Champaign is not an easy place to get to. I'm guessing a bowl game in Florida will bring a lot of MN fans.

I had plans to go back to London with my family in January for graduation, but after the Nebraska game I told my parents (who have a little worried about airline and hotel prices lately) that I'm going to skip graduation and go to the bowl game. They were excited about not having to spend all that money for London, as we have a trip to Atlanta planned for Feb. as well, and that for a graduation present they would cover all the costs of my trip to the bowl game. So count me in as well!

Never been there before, have you? Jacksonville is closer in feel to Biloxi than Orlando.

I would probably go to the Gator Bowl if they offered a student special that included a bus ride and hotel for $100-$150. The maroon student package is supposed to include access to travel opportunities and I would imagine they'd put one together for a bowl game.
