why in the hell did they not get out in front of this thing and make the big announcement via twitter/facebook?? all that hype and in the end, nothing. they had plenty of time to get the splashy spin out early and confirm the hire before it had been sniffed out by schmit.

considering how well they kept a lid on the process, it's a colossal blunder not to make the announcement first.

This is what happens when your athletic administration is poor. Hopefully Kahler will get this ship righted.

Regardless of what Kill does, this whole thing was a PR nightmare. The Twiter/FB 'here it here first!' debacle is only the beginning. The fact that they couldn't even get that right, shows how inept Joel's department is. Epic fail.

Because it turned out there was no "Big" announcement. As for keeping a lid on the process they likely didn't do that either- considering we ended up with Kill it appears that reports that I thought were ridiculous about various mid major/tier B or C guys turning Minnesota down were factual.

Either that or the reports that Minnesota was actually legitimately putting money on the table that candidates would possibly want to accept was NOT factual.

I am really not sure which.

Yea, I am sure they were getting turned down by big time candidates. But If they are coming at Chris Petersen with a 5 year 2 million a year, does that really count as a major candidate turning down an offer from the U of M? That is not even an offer to a guy like that.
