Vitale goes off on college hoops recruiting:

"Right now, college basketball recruiting has become a cesspool. It's getting to the point where you are embarrassed to be part of the game."

Says UNC and Duke do it the right way:

"You don't hear of issues over players at North Carolina or Duke, for example. They don't have violations because, over the years"

Go Gophers!!

A shocker, Bleed, Dukie V kissing the fannies of Duke (and North Carolina). Even when he's criticizing the sport as a whole, he still feels it necessary to take the time to kiss their a**es.

He's the biggest blowhard, bag of wind in the history of ESPN, and that's saying something (Steven A Smith, Sean Salisbury, Michael Irvin, etc.). Somebody please put him out to pasture. ... get him off the air.

Please do not sugar coat it, SS. Tell us how you really feel. :)

ESPN is featuring more and more commentators that don't have a grasp on the English language.

Go Gophers!!

Of course not. They're the NCAA's golden boys. They would never do anything to hurt those program's image (see Corey Maggette). They pick and choose who to hurt and who to look the other way at.

Put perfectly SS. Its gotten to the point that just looking at him nauseates me. Combine that with the audio spewing from his mouth and I just can't take it.

It's funny how on the same day Dukie V is railing against the recruiting cesspool while Izzo says 70% of the top 20% of recruiting involves cheating, and Vitale claims two of the kingpins who typically get the 20% don't do any cheating. As we have seen with PSU, just because things are quiet doesn't mean things aren't being done improperly. I guess Vitale missed the story about Myron Piggie and Corey Maggette.

Hearing Dukie V and all of his love over UNC and Duke is worse than listening to Skip Bayless talking about Tim Tebow.

I'm not a big Vitale fan, but he does have a point. This AAU culture is running the show in basketball. From a performance standpoint, AAU ball (IMHO) is geared to showcasing the individual - not team play - and the kids who come out of that system expect the same treatment in college. That in turn is making the college game less interesting to me. The top programs whore themselves out to recuit these pampered prima donnas, who in many cases turn out to be 1-and-done players who have no interest in getting an education - they're treating college as a way station before they can go pro.

I remember when players stayed in college 4 years, and you could watch a team develop over time. Now, it's like free-agency: teams like Kentucky or Memphis recuit some AAU hotshots; they play 1 year and jump to the pros; and then they go out and recruit another group of AAU hotshots. And in the process, concepts like 'team play,' and 'student-athletes' fall by the wayside.

If I sound grumpy, I got up at 4:45am to go to work.........

I agree with Dukie V that it's a cesspool. I also agree that he's the flagship station and card-carrying member of the "Duke/North Carolina Brown-Nose Association."

His act was old 20 years ago.

It took forever for CBS to get rid of Billy Packer (although Clark Kellog is only marginally better) but it did happen. The same will happen with Vitale.

The only time I watch college bb on ESPN if Vitale is working is when the Gophers play. If it is Dick V. and any other game, I turn to Pawn Stars.

Dukie V....LOL.....nice!

ESPN had a very interesting article on UNC's NCAA scandal today. From what I gather, none of Clem Haskins' stuff would have been illegal if it had been made available to the general student population too.

Dickie V is a joke. He on one hand calls recruiting a cesspool, then defends the blueblood programs that get most of the top recruits (who you would expect would attract the most $). The CBS report that came out today where coaches voted John Calipari to be perceived as the biggest cheater apparently did not persuade Dickie V, as he attributed it to jealousy. This is the same Calipari that is commonly suspected of cheating by the fans of every school other than Kentucky. I guess according to Vitale the blue bloods are clean and it's everyone else who cheats to get less talented players. I'm sure the fact that Calipari's schools had to vacate two Final Fours, and the repeated investigations into Calipari's players by the NCAA and other organizations, are also purely due to jealousy, eh Dickie V?

Here is Vitale's tweet:

Coaches voting @UKCoachCalipari is the biggest cheater better look in mirror = JEALOUSY Man can RECRUIT / COACH @vaughtsviews @jksports

And he wonders why people are sick of him?
