What is the future of this kid? Is he ever a threat to get snaps at QB? Will he switch positions? Transfer?

It would be hard to believe that he would ever get any snaps unless they are wildcat formations of if there is a string of injuries.

He's an interesting kid....

I wouldn't expect him to transfer. He knew the situation when he decided to come to MN and if he didn't like the situation here, he could have just went JuCo right away (and not have had to sit out a year).

He signed just this past June after Nelson committed and after Shortell had already signed.

The thing that I like about the signing is that it seems pretty obvious that Kill and his staff really liked Foreman because he wasn't at a position of NEED. Also, the Kill recruits who he has seemed really confident about (Jones and Bush) have shined. What I mean is that the first thing Kill did when he came to MN is get Bush and Jones to commit to MN (instead of Northern Illinois).

He was actually a pretty heavily recruited kid. He had committed to Colorado, but got his offer pulled last minute when Colorado switched coaches. He supposedly had some nice offers before he committed to Colorado but those dried up and he was set to go to JuCo (Blinn, the same one as Cam Newton and couple Gopher recruits). He was all set to go to Blinn and the Gophers offered him in June and he accepted. He joined our team late with Malcolm Moulton (another June signing).

His eventual position:

I'm not sure. He was a good passer in HS. He was recruited to Colorado as a QB. Kill has alwso liked to use a specialized QB at other spots. He used to use a kid named Jordan Lynch at Norther Illinois as like a super wildcat formation, where he would run out of the formation mostly, but not exclusively (in contrast with a normal wildcat). It makes sense, especially when Gray is gone and you want to take hits away from our QB.

He could also be moved to RB. He is built more like a RB, he is something like 6'1" 210, which is more RB size. Also, Kill mentioned a redshirt RB in his show with Sid today...well, we don't have another RB recruit other than Cobb (who isn't RSing), so maye that was Foreman.

His eventual position?

Not sure. He

Can never have too many players at any position. Too hard to predict where things will shake out, if you consider injuries, transfers, grades, poor play, etc.

Just look at how things played out this season.

Going into the season, we thought we were set at RB, but we basically only have one who plays.

We also thought we were deep at LB, but now have to play a converted RB regularly.

Who would have thought we would be starting 3 freshman on the o-line in the 2nd to last game of the year?

Nobody can predict with certainty who will be at QB 2yrs from now. Foreman has just as good of a shot at it as any other.

Kill is not going to hand anybody a job, they need to go out and work for it. Who's to say Foreman doesn't bust his butt and beat out Shortell in 2 years? Kill wouldn't have brought him in if he didn't have some tools he looks for in a QB.

Move him to WR. There is zero depth there. Actually, there are zero starters for next year, too. Crawford-Tufts has a chance to be good, Moulton is not impressive, Keise has done nothing (is he even available right now, haven't seen him), and there is really not much else on the roster.

Thanks Bob for the insight on the kid. I did not know a whole lot about him. Well written. Nice to know.

Brandon Green? Jones?

I for one think Green / DCT has decent potential as a starting WR duo in 2012

Maybe a Wildcat QB for 10 plays a game to keep the QBs fresh.

I went to several practices this fall and I was actually impressed with not only how Foreman ran, but also thought he threw the ball pretty well (he seemed pretty accurate). He's not real big, though (height-wise); not that that is a requirement for college football (see Russell Wilson), but was just something I noticed.

Maybe a Percy Harvin type player in a couple years when he puts on some weight...slot receiver, half back, wing back, wild cat QB and kick/punt returner would be my guess. At 6'1 210 he is bigger than Percy was as a FR...if he is half as explosive a player he could be a huge part of our team in two years.

Not that kind of player

Foreman is not small and shifty. He doesn't dart around. He is more toward a power running back. I agree he looked like a competent QB candidate in open fall practices. Kill thought we needed another QB for this year if we had injuries is what I heard him say between the lines. I think he may be #3 at QB.

Derrick Engel will be in the mix along with Jones, Moulton and Tuffs next year

Our receiving corps will be interesting next season. I'm not sure it will be great, but there are a lot of guys who should be interesting.

DCT and Green will likely start on the outside. Green has played really well over the last couple of games. He isn't very explosive, but he's pretty steady, good hands and a good blocker.

DCT is a guy who could really step up next season. Big play type of WR and he is also a good blocker.

Moulton and Jones should do their work from the slot. They've both shown glimpses of good and bad.

Engel...it'll be interesting to see how his speed translates.
Fruechte....He's a big WR, it'll be interesting to see what we have with him.
Kiese......been sort of an enigma, it'd be nice if he could step it up and show what he has shown in some practices.

I don't see Foreman's future position being WR. He isn't built like that, and I think it'd be more likely that he ends up a RB than a WR.

I like Tufts and Engel on the outside - 4.4 and 4.3 speed. We have lacked the speed factor. Way too many drops with the existing receivers 23 drops lead the big ten. These two do not drop balls and creat mis match's and will open up the running game by forcing the safeties deep or they will get burned.

Please stop citing ridiculous 40 times. Thank you.

Who is this Engel of whom you speak? I don't see him in the roster or the list of commits, and don't remember him - though the name seems familiar.

Probably the same way they used Mox in Varsity Blues

The receiver position for next season is going to be one to keep an eye on. There are a lot of bodies and some guys with obvious skill sets but I have yet to see anyone on the current roster that looks the part of a #1 WR who can draw the other teams top cover guy.

Right now my guess would be a WR by committee approach with no clear cut top guy. That can be good or bad in that teams can't key on one player but at the same time you don't have that guy you can rely on to make the big play like a Decker or even in many cases this year McKnight.

Hopefully the young guys will continue to develop and improve and maybe one of the trio of DCT, Jones, and Green will emerge as a legit top guy. Someone is going to have to step up and be the leader at that position just not sure at this point who it will be.

He transferred from Winona State. Practiced on Scout team this year and used his red shirt year. Led Div 2 freshmen year with +27 yards per reception. Was a top 10 Rivals and all state player out of Chaska. Runs a 4.3 40 yard with great hands. Was Scout Team player of the week for the Michigan State game. Didn't make Roster since started in Sept once school started and has been practicing this fall.

I will admit I don't know anything about this guy but a 4.3 40 with great hands does not land you at Winona State.

Played with a bad QB his senior year - Right down with Northwestern on a scholarship. Nebraska offered preferred walk on and Brewster recruited late. took scholarship at WSU and tear up that league. doing the same thing on the Scout team this fall. Will be ready for Spring ball

39 receptions 584 yards and 4 TD's his sophomore. 1st team selection for the conference. Here is a link to his Winona State page:

Still skeptical on the 4.3 40 claim but has decent size. I hope he turns out to be a legit receiver for us but only time will tell. Glad he is succeeding on the scout team but wouldn't put a lot of stock in tearing things up in non-contact practice drills especially against our secondary which has shown an inability to cover receivers on more then one occasion this year.

I don't ever get this "he's never going to play at (insert position), he should change positions or transfer". How often does that really happen in college football? A handful of times? Most kids seem to transfer for a pile of reasons other than playing time.

Let's talk QB--if every school has two or three QBs that will "never play" (and they do), that's 300 D-I QBs that will "never play". Will they all transfer? Will they all change positions? Will a good percentage? I think not.

Adam Leuck will likely never play a down at QB. He's never considered transferring.

I just don't understand these conversations...

Adam Lueck is a guy who just wants to be on the football team and has no delusions of being a starting QB. There are lots of guys like that on college rosters holding clipboards and signaling plays from the sideline. Guys like Alipate and Parrish were recruited to be starting QB's and given scholarships. I would be willing to bet the transfer numbers on those type of guys are pretty high once they know they are not going to be the starter or backup, chances are though that the majority drop down in class so no one ever hears of them after they leave a place like the U of M.

I will be surprised if either Parrish or Alipate are around next season because they both know they don't factor into the plans of the new staff.

Could have been at one point in time...those ranking change. For example...Nick Rallis is a 3 star and not even on the MN top 10 while there are 4 2-stars, but I'm sure that it'll change with an update and some 2 stars will get bumped off. No idea if the poster was accurate or not, but not gonna call someone out when I don't know for sure.

My mistake using Lueck as an example. You ignored the rest of my post. How many kids actually transfer over playing time?--very, very, very few. How many QBs change positions?--very, very, very few.
