Watching McSorley run around yesterday I found my self wishing that Devers was available. I never thought I'd want a freshman in the game so much.

Of course there is no way to know, but I think that we would have won had he been healthy and played yesterday. Had someone (Devers) been able to pressure their QB on just one or two of those plays where he scrambled and threw long completed passes the game would likely have ended differently.

We'll never know, but saying we would have won if a guy that has three tackles on the year is a bit much. He's a third down specialist and we don't know how he would hold up against the run.

Devers plays on 3rd down obvious passing plays. He could have been noticed on a few of those and made a difference, but there is no way to know. There seems to be some thoughts on this board that he is an every down/play impact kind of guy and that couldn't be further from the truth at this time.

3rd down is not our problem. PSU was 4-15 on third down.

Any time Ayinde was in I felt that was about another freshman, Winfield.

I don't think lack of pressure on the QB was the major problem. It was that the interior lineman weren't holding the pocket. As soon as the QB got pressure on the outside, he was able to step up to get away from them.

Its all opinions here, so we can argue what we want. I think that the fact that we got zero sacks (correct me if that's wrong), suggests that we did not get much pressure on that guy. Further, if their QB can easily escape our pass rush I don't think that we pressured him all that much. When leading by 3 at the end of the game we were one play away from winning the game, we knew that they had to pass, we get and interception we win (I'm 95% confident that we win under THAT ASSUMPTION). Without a pass rush that does not happen. Not only do we not pressure him, he takes off on a 35-yard run. Anyway, I don;t know if Devers would have made a difference, but I think with a QB sack at a key time, he would have made a difference. Again, I MIGHT AND COULD WELL BE WRONG, no one can say, either way, with any authority.

There were numerous times, McSorley slipped away with the outside rusher one step away, with Devers speed he doesn't get away. At the very least he has to take his eyes away from his down field target. In the end it's a team loss lots of, would have, could have, should haves, to go around.

Well let's put it this way - the player responsible for one third of the sacks and 60% of the turnovers this season was out.

You say 3 tackles, I say 3 sacks and 3 fumbles forced that have all been turnovers. Both are facts. Of course we'll never know but I think a few of those scrambles / big passes came on third and longs so I think he could have definitely made a difference. Doesn't really matter though cuz we didn't have him and it's over now. Hopefully he's back and healthy for Iowa.

The thing that some of you are forgetting is that when he is in the game, the offensive scheme will have to account for him, usually holding a back in to help with the offensive tackle. I seem to remember that a back cutting him is how he was hurt. By holding a back in, that's one less receiver that our linebackers and secondary have to account for. Neither of Iowa's offensive tackles are very good. So I am sure you will see them keep a back in to help. Might give us a chance to spy on the QB.
