per the Detroit Free Press:

The wins this fall are a bonus for P.J. Fleck, who left Western Michigan last off-season to realize his dream of coaching at a Power 5 school in Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) host Michigan State (4-1, 2-0) on Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium (8 p.m., BTN).

Under Fleck, Minnesota has emphasized building their culture over winning football games in Fleck's first year in Minneapolis.

"Really, it's about the installation of a brand new culture, which is very, very difficult and very different," Fleck told reporters on a media call on Tuesday afternoon. "At Minnesota, we've had three different head coaches in three different years, so that's three different cultures in three years. For young people, at times (that can be difficult).

"We knew that all along coming in here. It's like having three different moms and dads and having your parents go through three different divorces in three different years. It's very difficult for young people, so we want to bring that cultural sustainability, and there's always that Year 0. There's always a start to it."

Fleck is no stranger to rebuilding programs. He went 1-11 with the Broncos in 2013, his first season. Last season, he led them to 13-0 regular season record and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl, just the school's eighth bowl game ever.
