Peppers to Minnesota

One day after his team's season ended with a loss to Mitchell in the opening round of the 4A playoffs, Fairley defensive lineman Demaris Peppers announced he has committed to the University of Minnesota.

"I like the atmosphere around the team," said Peppers, who visited the Big Ten school in mid-September. "Everyone wants to do great things and the coaching staff is on the same page.

"They have their own little massage room to help work on injuries and their locker room is shaped like a football. And they have a great weight room."

Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Kentucky and Arkansas State also offered Peppers, but he said Minnesota was a clear favorite.

"The other schools weren't as strong," he said. "It's going to be very exciting to play Big Ten football."

Peppers, who is expected to make his commitment to the Golden Gophers on National Signing Day in February, has a 3.8 grade-point average and scored a 22 on his ACT. He said he plans on majoring in kinesiology.
