Deja Vu? Ryan Boatright decommits

get at him tubby seriously. WE NEED A PG that is rated above 2 stars seeing as they wont help us. i think you all know who im talking about. and curtis jones, really?

but then again if he did by some miracle of god commit to us hed prolly decommit. :) kid seems confused with all these decommitments

I guess he was PO'd that Huggs would recruit another PG in his class ... not sure what to make of that since there weren't much comments coming from his side. But be seems like just another recruit who wants PT handed to him rather than earned. Do you want a great player or a great team? If you want a great team, you can't have key players who don't want to earn their PT. You don't go to a place like WVU and get a starting spot handed to you. Scott Drew at Baylor is the only high major coach that I have heard promises starting spots to recruits.

yea well whether we want to hand a starting pg spot out or not its there. so,... please gets some respectable PG recruits tubbster, start with this kid

Actually Boatwright is PG height but plays SG (averaging 25+ ppg) in HS.

Boatright is not Tubby's kind of point guard, so that is why the Gophers didn't really recruit him that hard. I would agree with that assessment after seeing him at the adidas Super 64 in Vegas and gthe adidas Nations in Chicago. I was surprised that he picked West Virgina. Miami was thought to be the favorite in July and their head coach Frank Haith was at all his games in Vegas. Not sure if they cooled on him, which led him to commit to WVU.

well chris monter, what is tubbys kind of point gaurd, maverick ahanmisi, and nobody? isnt boatright similar to rajon rondo or am i wrong? lastly any news that we are recruiting at least somebody respectable this year, or next that we have a real shot at?

I'm obviously not Chris, but I'll take stab at this. I don't believe Rondo is all that accurate of a comparison for Boatright. I think he is more in the Allen Iverson mold, though certainly not as good. Boatright is a smallish, shoot first (probably second as well) guard, whose skills are probably better suited for SG than PG at this point.

Seems to me that Tubby's kind of point guard is a quick, pass-first player who works hard on the defensive end and is capable of pressing and playing uptempo. Al Nolen is a good example of that, even though Tubby isn't the one that recruited him.

That first comment makes NO SENSE at all.

Why the fixation on Maverick Ahanmisi? He was a late spring replacement for a transfer.

Rondo was indeed a PG but Boatwright is a scoring guard of PG height.

depaul just got a commitment from a 5-9 guard in Barry Larkin's kid. Boatright supposedly was mad at WVU for recruiting another point guard in his class. depaul has a point guard in his class, too, so I am not sure they are a good fit. Plus, from depaul's point of view, I am not sure they want to under 5-10 guards in the same class.

Boatright has been all over the place in his recruitment, obviously. That is why I am glad that Illinois got Tracy Abrams early and might get Chasson Randle late. Might, I said. :)

Illinois is going to be really good for a while now...Oskeewowow

Boatwright is a scoring guard despite his PG height. DePaul would surely take a talent like him.

I think Randle goes to Stanford.

Yep, I think Randle will end up at Stanford, too. His dad is a lifelong Illinois fan and the family wants him at Illinois, but I think he does not see a lot of time early at Illinois. Besides Tracy Abrams and Mychael Henry in his own class, he will have to fight for time with DJ Richardson, Jereme Richmond, Brandon Paul, Joseph Bertrand, and Crandall Head. I would love to have him because we fans like to have an embarrassment of riches, so to speak, but I totally understand why he would choose to go elsewhere and he is not a must-get recruit for Illinois.

On top of that, Stanford is a great school. However, his family will be 2,000 miles away and nobody cares about Pac 10 games outside of people in the west. They are on late and the league is not very good and the fans care more about football.

But I do think you are right about where he will end up.

So how would Randle's decision to go to Stanford (if he indeed does make that decision) impact Andre Hollins? I am still holding out hope that there are two Hollins' on the Gopher squad next year.

I am not sure how it would affect Hollins. Randle wants to play the point, and Hollins is a two, right?

I am a bit more confident that Illinois might still get Randle after some late night info. However, Stanford would still not surprise me. Purdue, on the other hand, would be a surprise.

Gophers want Hollins as a 1. I read he plans on playing mostly PG in school this year. At 6'1", that should be his focus.

I can't think of any reason why Randle would retake his ACT unless he wanted to be in a certain major at Stanford. I'd think he could get into his major of choice at U of IL already.

Purdue has 2 commitments and wants a C from Detroit for the 3rd recruit.

There are reports that one of OSU's commits, LaQuinton Ross, might not sign in the fall period, so maybe he will decommit. He hasn't decommited yet, but if he doesn't sign anything in the fall period, it's certainly not a vote of confidence!
