Dribbles & Scribbles
-- With South Dakota State's drubbing at the hands of NET #4 Arizona in Tucson, the Summit League finishes the regular season winless in 17 games vs. the Power 5 Conferences (+ Gonzaga). Next opportunity? A likely #15, #14, or #13 seed Summit League Tournament champion vs. the P5/Gonzaga in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
-- Illinois State takes over the Missouri Valley's best NET ranking (#55) after Belmont (#61) loses @ Indiana State in a mild surprise.
-- Detroit Mercy has been a mess of a basketball program for quite some time, with its last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012. But former Michigan State assistant and Northern Illinois head coach Mark Montgomery appears to have the Titans headed in the right direction. The upstart Titans are 6-7 overall and a surprising 3-1 in the Horizon League. They get a crack at Horizon defending regular season and tournament champion Robert Morris on Friday in the Motor City.
-- If St. Thomas is fortunate enough to make the NCAA Tournament, my plan is to follow the Tommies to whatever city they are assigned for the 1st/2nd round. To that end, in order, my preferences 1 to 8 graded on a combination of weather, location/convenience, cost, tournament atmosphere, etc.:
(1) Oklahoma City, (2) Saint Louis, (3) Greenville, SC, (4) San Diego, (5) Tampa, (6) Philadelphia, (7) Buffalo, (8) Portland. For what it's worth, Tampa & Philly are the only locations I've yet to secure a "no pay in advance required" hotel.

Am thankful the non-conference season is just about over. It's time to get to the real stuff, night-in, night-out conference play on home courts. Bring it on!
