Monday Eye-Openers (upsets, importance, MOV, etc.)
-- Bowling Green 82, @ Kansas State 66: K-State just entered my bracket, they'll depart quickly.

-- @ Incarnate Word 71, McNeese 67: Southland preseason favorites drop conference opener.

Dribbles & Scribbles
-- The ACC/SEC Challenge tips off tonight. The SEC embarrassed the ACC 14-2 in last year's challenge, catapulting the SEC on a historic season that led to a record 14 NCAA Tournament bids, a pair of Final 4 teams (Auburn, Florida), and a national championship (Florida). If 2025-26 early returns mean anything, don't expect quite the same SEC dominance. Thus far the conferences have similar records vs. Power 5/Gonzaga opponents. The ACC is 16-21 (43.2%), the SEC (17-24, 41.5%). I'm seeing another SEC win, but this time with a little less damage to the ACC reputation. The call: SEC wins it 11-5 over the next two nights.

-- If Florida wins @ Duke tonight, St. Thomas will hold the nation's longest home winning streak all by itself. The Tommies and Dukies currently share it at 21 games.

-- The Big Ten season kicks off tonight with three games: undefeated Iowa @ undefeated Michigan State (6/Peacock), undefeated Purdue @ Rutgers (7/FS1), and undefeated USC @ struggling Oregon (9/FS1). The Hawkeyes and new coach Ben McCollum can announce their arrival in the second-biggest way possible (other than winning @ Purdue's Mackey Arena) in the Big Ten, a win at the Breslin Center.

-- Colorado defeated Cal Baptist 78-70 in a battle of unbeatens.

-- Middle Tennessee handled UAB 76-61 in the Conference USA season opener.

-- Villanova defeated Temple 74-56 to win its pool in the Big 5 Classic. The Wildcats (6-1) advanced to Saturday's championship game (6/Peacock) to play Fran McCaffery's Penn squad (5-3).

Deep Thoughts, by Buzz Studley
If Kentucky loses to North Carolina at Rupp Arena tonight, expect full-fledged panic in Lexington. UK would be 5-3 with losses in all three of its high-impact games (@ Louisville, vs. Michigan State, North Carolina). The Wildcats best win to date is #235 (Torvik T-Rank) Valparaiso.
