Dribbles & Scribbles
-- Anthony Smith III needs to play a lot more minutes for North Dakota. Smith III was a sparkplug last night in North Dakota's 90-88 upset of Winthrop in Grand Forks, providing energy, quickness, and athleticism for a team sorely needing all three. In 20 minutes off the bench, Smith III cooked with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. He assisted on an Eli King (25 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 4-of-9 from 3) trey that won the game with .5 seconds remaining.

-- Sneaky big game tonight, #37 Villanova (8-2) vs. #68 Wisconsin (7-3) at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The records look OK, but neither team has anything of true significance on their resume.

Deep Thoughts, by Buzz Studley
The Big XII will land the most tournament bids this season, not the Big Ten. And look out for the ACC, a vastly improved conference; it's looking like a 7-bid league, at least, after struggling to find four the last couple seasons. The ACC got four bids in 2024-25, and the fourth (North Carolina) was a gift and one of the most egregious selections since I started projecting at-large qualifiers in 1991-92.
