Two things.
First, I was very disappointed by the hire. I don't think it met the self stated goals of Maturi at the beginning of the search. Although I have my doubts about ability to sell tickets and raise money, I'm warming up to Kill. Everything I've read points out he is a good coach and a better man. I wish him luck.
Second, I was listening to KFAN today and heard Paul Allen lamenting not picking Scott Linehan or Chryst. He will not give up the Chryst angle. I even heard him say that people are stupid because we don't want someone just becuase he is from Wisconsin. He does qualify this by saying he doesn't know that much about College FB.
What I don't think he realizes is that Maturi is from Wisconsin. Both Co-ordinators are from Wisconsin. Two or three of the top assistants are from Wisconsin. All of that WI experience got us where we are today. Forgive us if we would like our new coach to come from a different pond than WI. His reason for liking Chryst so much? Because the two people he talked to about Chryst just happened to be from WI. Bevell and the Vikings o-line coach.
Winning football is played plenty of places outside of Madison. I, for one, am happy that it was not Chryst.

PA is one of the few people that make me actually yell out loud at my radio. Most of his takes on college football are beyond ridiculous.

Chryst is a great offensive coach, but as many fans have said including many from WI, he hates recruiting, and hates most aspects involved in being a head coach.

He has zero head coaching experience and will likely move to an offensive coordinator job in the NFL next.

PA should stick to the NFL and Horse Racing, the two things he knows something about.

His take on Chryst and Linehan are terrible.

I think Chryst will get his chance some day to be a HC and he might even be a good one. However, the Gophers could not afford to get a guy without HC experience.

PA should not be listened to for any college football or college sports knowledge at all. He is not a football fan just a fan of the paycheck he gets from the vikings so he continues to sell his product. PA is the very definition of a bit much like the other KFAN personalities, their DJ's no more.

I am glad we hire Kill over Chryst. We need a guy with HC experience that can come in here with an established system and coordinators and get the ball rolling on day one.

Not sticking up for JM, but he is from Chisolm, Mn. He was the AD at Wisconsin though.

PA,

I have never talked to paul chryst. Couldn't pick him out of a lineup standing next to Shaq. I don't think you have ever talked to him either. I understand he hates recruiting and talking in public. Great combination for a head coach. Maybe you should do some research before you are critical of the hire of Jerry Kill!

Like talking about Scott Linehan being OVER-qualified for the Gophers job? PA is a moron. Linehan was a terrible head coach in the NFL and is an offensive coordinator.

PA was also a Brad Childress fan............

LOL.

I really do think PA generally means well but he is extremely loyal to the people he is familiar with. It makes him come across worse than I think his intentions are. He had a little knowledge on Chryst rolling over teams as an offensive coordinator and he knows Scott Linehan. He went on the same exact line of thinking when it came to the Gophers search prior to Tubby, he was pushing Trent Tucker (even though the guy has never coached, right?) and he did the same thing commenting on Flip Saunders like Flip was Phil Jackson (even after Flip ran the Pistons into the ground and flopped with the Wiz).

Yes, he lets his personal relationship with some of these guys get in the way of objectivity.

PA's bit is to act like a 12 year old for several hours a day. No thank you.

That's Chisholm, MN. Sorry to nitpick, but - well, everyone here knows where I am from.

He was also an assistant AD at UW.
