Dean Smith in failing health

This is really sad to see. Coach Smith was/is a great coach and a great man. Not to mention he's the architect of UNC basketball.

It's very sad to hear about Coach Smith, you're 100% right, great coach, tremendous teams, but as far as being the architect of UNC basketball, I respectfully disagree. The program had been established when he took the reins, although he obviously took it to new heights.

If you disagree, how am I 100% right?! Yes, UNC was a prominent program when he took over, but it would not be what it is today without the Dean. Coach Smith is, was, and probably always will be UNC basketball.

Go4Gold, I guess we do agree.:) Anyways, I'm sad to hear about Coach Smith. I wish him the best, although in the article it didn't sound encouraging. He had one of my favorite college players, Bob McAdoo when I was in North Carolina.

It's sad that he's fading,

but I will never forgive him for the four corners offense (offense?). Caused a major rule change that improved the college game, but was SO ugly to watch. Must have been excruciating to play it.

Every team played a high post spread at the end of the game. It was just that Smith used it earlier than most coaches.
