And even with the loss to Ohio State, if the Gophers (4-2 Big Ten) beat the Cornhuskers (4-2) and Badgers (5-1), they will win the Big Ten West. The first tiebreaker is head-to-head record.

De’Vondre Campbell took Kill’s message to heart.

“I think we have a great chance to beat Nebraska and Wisconsin,” the junior linebacker said. “We’ve just got to get back to the lab, correct our mistakes from today, and I think we’ll be fine. We’re not too worried about it. We’ll see [Ohio State] again in three weeks.”

The press corps was a bit stunned when he said that. Did he really mean “in three weeks” at the Big Ten championship game, in Indianapolis?

“Yeah,” Campbell said. “We’ll see them again in three weeks.”

Go Gophers!!

I'm pretty confident that the boys will take care of the Cornhuskers. Winning in Madison, however, is another story, and I can't see them pulling that one off.

I am pretty ambivalent about this kind of talk, my attitude is kind of "talk is cheap, but let's see you do it on the field." However, that is what I was thinking when I heard guys talking a big game before Iowa, and they came out and delivered with on field results, so if this is what gets them going, full speed ahead.

This team has responded well after losses this season. I'd love to see them torch Nebraska and give us a 1 game playoff for the title.

I'm glad to hear this kind of talk because it shows they have a great attitude going forward and are still very motivated. After such a hard fought OSU game I might be worried that the team would have a hangover and a letdown the following week, but it sounds like at least some of the players have put that game completely behind them already and are fixed in for the next game.

Go Gophers!!

That quote was tweeted out at 3:07pm on Saturday, so it was said while he was probably still amped up from the game. I doubt there was a lot of thought and reflection involved.

It's great to see that level of confidence after a loss!

Pat Ruff column: Time for Gophers to also play big

You've got to like De'Vondre Campbell's confidence. Maybe not his wisdom, but his belief.

It's statements like his — however erroneous — that make this Minnesota football team and program so much different than others we've seen the last 40 years.

The Gophers linebacker wrapped up his team's 31-24 loss to No. 7-ranked Ohio State by saying that the Buckeyes are not a better team than Minnesota. Campbell also had enough swagger (idiocy?) to insist that his team will be seeing OSU again in three weeks.

The junior was eluding to the Big Ten championship game. The only way 7-3 Minnesota gets there is by going on the road the next two weeks and beating two teams ranked higher than it is, first No. 21 Nebraska, then No. 14 Wisconsin.

Minnesota will be underdogs in both.

But who cares. These Gophers dare to talk big and be great. And if you don't believe? Well, then you might as well forget it.

So, well done De'Vondre. Go ahead and talk that junk, because you actually mean it. It tells us you and your team are halfway home.

Never say die!
I love it. Win this weekend and give yourself a one game playoff in the depths of Mordor against the evil skunks from the east.
BTW Campbell has played pretty well down the stretch this season. His run D has gotten much better.

Love the attitude, if not the talk.

Would prefer Campbell learn how to play downhill.

Pat Ruff column:

Methinks the meaning of the word elude eludes Pat Ruff because I sure hope Campbell isn't eluding the Big Ten Championship game.

He'll get there. Went from a tall, skinny rangy drag down tackler in JUCO to a decent to solid B10 OLB in 2 years. He's not a natural thumper like Wilson or even Lynn but he brings a lot to the table that is valuable.

His comment sounds like confidence, not cockiness.

I like it! Still have to go out and play the game but's it's good to have confidence. The wisconsin game is going to be about who wants it more in the trenches.

Brewster level sound byte, talk is cheap let's get it done.

I here you. Sometime media members who write for a living get there words mixed up.
