per the STrib:

Gov. Mark Dayton and Minnesota business leaders will unveil a bid for Minnesota to be host of an upcoming NCAA Championship Game in college football.

Dayton and unspecified business leaders will talk about the effort at a news conference Tuesday morning. No more details were released about the bid, but currently the College Football Playoff National Championship is scheduled through the January 2017 game.

Go Gophers!!

That would be great. But, if I'm the selection committee, I may want to see how the Super Bowl in 2018 goes over first. Personally, I think the Super Bowl will go over well, and will surprise attendees.

Question is, will student's be required to purchase tickets to the championship game in order to get season hockey tickets? Dayton would shut it down real quick if that happened.

I can't tell if you guys are just being dicks or if you don't really care that we could host a national championship??? How could you not care??? Even if you wouldn't go, it would be awesome for the city and UofM.

If you're waiting for me to pop a bolt over something that may or may not happen 5+ years down the road, you might want to pack a lunch.

Its a bidding contest. See money. Now the Bowl Rotation does it. And there are established revenue sources. Dayton thinks this could be a one night stand. Maybe Dayton will foot the cost.

So you say don't bid for it then?

CBS: Minnesota wants to host a College Football Playoff title game

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton was joined by Gophers football coach Jerry Kill and several area business leaders Tuesday to officially announce the state's bid for a College Football Playoff National Championship.

Minneapolis has a new downtown stadium opening this fall, likely a big factor in securing the 2018 Super Bowl and 2019 Final Four, that gives Minnesota a decent chance against some of the other cities battling for a bid.

3 years in a row with a massive event would be interesting. I'd say the state will have a pretty good shot

The new stadium is opening this fall? Do the Vikings know?

ESPN: Minneapolis is best shot for Midwest title game

If the college football national championship game is going to be held in the Midwest in the near future, then it looks like it may be Twin Cities or bust.

Minneapolis officially threw its hat into the ring for the 2020 title game on Tuesday with an announcement at the state capitol. The 2018, '19 and '20 games are open in the next bidding cycle, and bids are due May 27.

Minneapolis appears to be the only Midwest city to get involved in this round. Indianapolis, which seems like a natural fit because of its history of hosting major events such as the Final Four and the Super Bowl, has decided not to pursue this next round of college football title games. Other cities expected to compete include Atlanta, Miami, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Florida, and Santa Clara, California.

Question: Does Governor Dayton purchase Golden Gopher Football Season tickets? Any know? just curious.

Not a terrible point, but it's a COMPLETELY different crowd that's going to college football playoff/bowl games than it is that go to the Super Bowl. Not even close.

The Super Bowl will do just fine in MSP because it's the Super Bowl and it would probably do awesome in Bismarck, ND; I'm not 100% sure you can get 10's of thousands of college kids to want to flock to MSP in January when they'd rather be in Fort Lauderdale or South Padre.

I really doubt there are 10's of thousands of college kids at the championship game. In fact I'd bet a large sum against it.

Saw him at two games last year. Best Governor we've had since Floyd B. Olson.

Would that be the same Floyd B Olson that was a known protector of Kidd Cann and the Minneapolis Mafia back in the 20's?

Take a look at this article from a couple of weeks ago in the City Pages if you want to learn more about Floyd B Olson. Of course, if the recent allegations about DFL/ IRRRB corruption and dirty inside dealing on the Iron Range are correct, then things have not changed that much in MInnesota in 80 years with regards to the DFL.

Of course things haven't changed for the DFL. As corrupt as DFL politicians are they are pure as the wind driven snow compared to Republican politicians. It was as true in the 1930's as it is now.

I would second that though I don't have statistical evidence to speak for it
