“I’m very proud of the development league. It’s working. That march is continuing," Stern told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. "The drumbeats I hear about colleges not liking what they refer to one-and-done ... We now have a rule where the development league will accept players that are 18 and will do a better job of educating them than the college programs they are in.”

Go Gophers!!

Is he referring to an academic education, or basketball education? I wasn't aware that the D-league provided free academic education for the players (but that would be a good idea).

I had to sit back and think about this. At first I was thinking "What an incredibly arrogant statement", but I've changed my mind and think that for many kids it just may be the way to go.

Let's face it, how much are most of the one-&-dones learning? A lot of guys have got their remedial-course passing grades for the first quarter and really just coast in class (if they go at all) after that. The BIG losers for kids going directly to D-league are the "agents" and the rogue programs that none of us like anyway.

I think the one and done's should have the right to turn pro. There should be a rule that if a kid signs an LOI they should stay in school for three years before they turn pro, just like baseball, although I'd settle for two years.

They do have the right to turn pro, and go to the NBDL. Or to Europe. If a player wants to turn pro out of high school, he is free to do that. Aquille Carr (in the class of 2013) I believe has done just that.

Brandon Jennings did as well. Probably the most notable guy. Based on the deal he just got with Detroit, I'd say it has worked out.
