Just saw this name. I think this would be a great hire! No idea if he is interested in a college gig. 492 head coaching in the NBA. Only 50 years old. From Minnesota

Had good teams that played defense. One of my top candidates.
Will Wade is towards the top. I am guessing Medved probably has already excepted the job.

Medved may have even accepted the job.

Nothing against him personally, but this is no the time for another experiment. And I don't care how many NBA games he's coached, hiring a coach who has zero games of experience as a college head coach is an experiment. We experimented with the last two hires and got burned twice. Stop touching the stove.

Good lord, why? Because he’s got local ties? I’m local and I’m one of us, so can I have the job?

An NBA coach with zero college experience doesn’t interest me. Teaching and developing is an important part of college coaching (and something Ben didn’t show much aptitude for), and NBA coaches don’t teach or develop. They develop schemes which are then executed by a machine made of extremely high-end parts, which is impressive but is nowhere near as useful in college, where the players aren’t as good.

Look, would any other program even give him a second thought? Of course not. But he's from Staples!
I would imagine MANY MBB programs would give a former NBA coach more than a second thought if they there was any indication that he was interested in giving up his just shy of $1M salary as an assistant to take on 5x the responsibility as a head coach of an NCAA team.

The guy has over 25 years of experience coaching including at the highest level in the world. He's set for life after his NBA head coaching gigs so he likely has VERY little in moving down a league to work harder.

I might agree with you only problem he would be replacing Ben Johnson. Their is not a chance that the AD makes another hire of a coach with no college head coaching experience. I think he might be a good coach. Mark would be run out of town if he gambled like that again after two epic failures.

If he’s excepted the job, we had better keep looking.

It might work for some programs in some situations. It would be a very bad choice for Minnesota at this time. If Dave Joerger was not from Staples, we would not be discussing him at all.
